Here is quote from one of the press reviews:

Quote:
The third test was the most interesting for me. It was a dry auto cross using Subaru STIs. For this test we compared the Michelin A/S 3s to competitor's summer tires. Normally you would compare the Michelin Pilot Super Sport to the competitor's tires we used during this test. The STIs were 6 speeds and they were lots of fun to drive. Again we rated the tires on a 1 to 5 scale. Here are my ratings:

Tire Rating
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 4.5
Continental Extreme Contact DW 1.5
Pirelli P Zero Nero 4.0
Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position 3.5

It was somewhat amazing to compare a Michelin all season tire to the summer tires from the other companies. The feedback and recovery of the Michelin tires were excellent. There was much less drama when driving the STIs with the Michelin tries.

This tire appears to be putting out some incredible performance #s for an all-season. Fortunately, it appears that the tire may be available in many smaller sizes, which was not the case with the Pilot Sport A/S.

Who's interested in a set?

LOL ! The wet handling "impressions" are completely opposite to what the other journalist ( and myself actually ) have experienced with the Eagle F1 Asymmetric A/S they compared the new product to. Here are a few reviews of the Eagle so you can draw your own conclusions. I will say one thing, the Eagle F1 ride stiff, like fairly stiff, like I love the traction but I will probably not put these on a stiffly sprung car ever lol. Or maybe its the 36 psi oe spec from Mazda.

All those reviews are for the same/similar event. Goodyear made it a point to show off the wet traction of this tire.

And for those who are interested , the Eagle GT is being replaced by Eagle Sport All Season .

This Michelin tire and the Continental Purecontact are the two tires I am watching closely for feedback. Lets see how they turn out in the future.

I would love a set on my wife's 2005 Subaru Legacy GT wagon. Hopefully these tires have average winter traction as something has to give.

I had the F1 Asymmetric on my old S4. I agree with bourne: I do not agree with any of the reviews. It was extremely predictable and capable in the wet, even at 75mph.

The Pilot Sport A/S is a good tire, so it's good to see it getting even better. That BadgerBimmers site is so [censored] biased it's hilarious, though.

I like my pilot exalto AS on my BMW. I think the 135i will get Pilot SS or whatever the good summer tire is, since I dont really use it in bad weather... But for the VW? Perhaps we will get these over the mxm4 primacy.

Actually, just looked at Michelin's own ratings.

The primacy MXM4 is rated 9, 10, 10, 10, 9 in its categories.
The PS AS3 is rated 10, 9, 9, 8, 10 in its identical categories.

So what's the deal? Do these ratings bars actually compare tire to tire? It would tell me that the PS A/S 3 is an inferior tire to the mxm4...

Seems that way. Michelin says: "Performance ratings............are reflective of the various tire lines' strengths within the overall Michelin portfolio" .

Any all season has too many compromises to excel at any one area.

Expect Michelin to typically offer longer tread life and at least "good" performance across the life of the tread. That's what their rep is built on.

Tires are worse than ice cream, too many flavors. Each have their good points...

yeah but the numbers are saying that the primacy mxm4 is a 10, just like a top end pilot summer tire in handling, braking, etc.

And this new A/S 3 is worse.

I would be cautious about basing my purchase strictly on any one source of info.

IMO you guys are getting way too worked up over what is essentially promotional information designed to get you to buy now.

I agree, but you would think that Micheli would do a good job comparing their own tires based upon some set of metrics... and you'd also think that a brand new premium "sporty" tire would rank better than an older premium touring tire at least in some areas...

It looks like it would make a great WET open track/HPDE tire for those unwilling to drop the coin on real short-wearing, soft & sticky wet/rain racing rubber (Kumho W710s/Hoosier DOT Wets), but that remains to be seen.

Hopefully, they used the knowledge gained in developing my current, excellent donuts (BFG Super Sport all seasons) to take these even further yet.

I think the ratings are relative to each performance category. The Primacy MXM4 and the Pilot Sport A/S 3 do not compete in the same performance category.

Meh, either way, I'm really looking forward to these. Michelin really stepped up their game with the PSS and I have zero doubt that these will end up being a game changer as well...I just need these to hurry up and come out already so peeps can write their own real world reviews because my old set of Pilot Sport A/S are almost at the wear bars lol

So why can't I get these yet? Tire Rack and Discount Tire don't have them. Online retailers don't either.

The older Pilot Sport A/S Plus is decent (previous owner put them on my car), but very noisy and has since been eclipsed by the competition. I was quite happy with how they did at the track, especially for an AS tire.

Michelin website is saying July...

When I called up TireRack a while back, they said July at the earliest. That was in April. At that time Michelin's website said "May".

I wonder if some design defect that was uncovered during testing has delayed the official launch. I guess it's better they fix it now than later.
