I have a couple of friends in NJ. They both say that when they retire they'll drop that state like a bad habit. They are planning to move to WV where their 400K home will be sold and they will take 150K of that to buy an equivalant home in WV. Simply put..they can't afford the Taxes in NJ.
I have been all up and down NJ. I frankly hate the state. But I think that everyone regardless of where they live would feel the same as you.
yep... NY might be the only one that doesnt (am I wrong???) because of all the $$$$$ that NYC draws in from the world. Seems that other than the SE corner, most of NY as you head north or west is just lots of woods... not much cost to govern that.
I'm pretty sure that every major metro area is a loser, moneywise. NYC has the distinction of being the most important and vital money loser that there is. It's where loss is brokered. It's the argumemt that's always used when metro areas get added aid from the state. They're like tumors that are wrapped around vital organs. You can't cut them out without killing so much other stuff.
