Installed this after yanking the old knob on a 1-2 shift:

Bored hole up middle of ball, squeezed a lot of glue into it, wrapped the lever with hockey tape (hopefully making it easier to remove if/when, and jammed the ball on. It is pretty solid and, while it is rather large compared to a standard shift knob, it works fine and has a nice feel.

Notice I put the shift pattern from the old knob into the cigarette lighter in case someone needs to drive it they can see what the shift pattern is.

looks like you've covered all your bases...

Very creative. The knob never came off on my '01, but I remember it being a common occurrence on my parents '86 Ranger.

Another solution is to replace with a Hurst Billet/Plus short throw shifter.

Out of the park for creativity.

Out of the park for a creative solution to the problem!

The dealer's parts man was waiting for you to order a new knob, but you threw him a curve.

Nice...I had a friend doing the same thing only that he used a golf ball. The shifter looks kinda like the ford mustang shelby gt500 gear shifter

Yeah, someone told me I should have used a golf ball, but I am not into golf. the baseball is a tad big but does not feel awkward at all on throwing shifts.
