Got a S&W 686 Plus Deluxe in November. Its my first firearm and I've done a ton of reading and watching and learning. As well as several range days. I plan on doing some classes, too.

Anyway, ordered two holsters. A 1791 OWB one and an IWB one from etsy: Travis Winchester. I much prefer the Winchester one. May exchange the 1791 one for one of their belts.

Not a fan of leather as are SD experts not. Give me a cheap kydex matched to the firearm every day of the week.
This is made for my revolver and fits great. Good quality leather and stitching. The only issue people seem to have with leather is potential for leather to fold into the trigger gaurd, but that's with cheaper made ones.

Have you ever used IWB holster? Leather vs kydex doesn't make your pants fit differently.
yes, in fact i use a IWB kydex for my CC gun, a USP 45. weird gun to cc i know. my physicality allows me to not create a print.

the leather iwb holster adds nothing to your waist, but when you put the gun in the holster, it makes a difference. remove it and you belt is looser.

also reholstering iwb leather is dangerous, and typically takes two hands.....since the leather is crushed.

reholstering is one facet not very well discussed.

I get what you're saying. But my leather holster is fairly stiff/thick and doesn't move much between holstered/unholstered. My pants don't feel different fitting either. I use a good belt with the ratcheting notches so it fits perfectly.

All that said, if I'm unholstering, it's for self defense. I won't be holstering under stress/quickly. There's never a need to holster quickly imo. So using two hands isn't an issue.

I also have this 1791 leather OWB but the "conceal" part isn't really good unless I'm wearing a jacket.

I have a 1791 holster they are nice. Dont get me wrong, I like leather. For certain applications., just not IWB.

I understand you might think that, and you are likely right. But crazy stuff happens when bullets fly.....no never know.

I train to re-holster, and do other tasks.

I'm not opposed to kydex. And recommended brands that actually make them for the 686?

I am not the right one to ask for a revolver. But I can say that with kydex, sometimes the best thing to do is have one made at a gun show. Really, adjustment of a kydex holster is easy, just need some heat and a bit of patience. I made my own leather holster for my 17-5 S&W masterpiece.

There is the cool factor also, and leather with a revolver is pretty cool.
