I'm hoping to fire up my 440 in my challenger soon.It has a solid lifter cam in it.Now with all the problems I've been hearing about people wiping cam lobes I'm trying to figure out an approach to take with it.I hear a lot of guys are using the gm eos for cam break in and at every oil change,some are only using it at break in and running rotella etc. for there normal oil changes.So I'm turning to the experts here on what oil and/or additives I should use for breaking in the cam and my regular oil changes.Oh ya I'm in California so I can't run down to the gm dealer anymore & pick up some eos.Any help is much appreciated!

I'd break in in with straight Delo 30, or some kind of a diesel straight 30. Then check your oil pressure with the straight 30; you may not need to go up to 15w40 if you have good oil pressure with the straight 30 diesel. I'm thinking 40psi at idle is a good place to start.
 
Ditto what Merkava said. I would use the EOS for the initial break-in. Prime the oiling system before starting, and keep rpm's after starting. Here's what Rick Ehrenberg, tech editor of Mopar Action, had to say in response to a reader's question about the failure of a new cam:

"James, assuming no V-P interference, and normal oil flow, it was simply improper break-in. Here's the way to prevent a recurrence:

Polish lifter bottoms to mirror finish - should look like a chome bumper
Use gooey break-in lube
and, MOST IMPORTANT:

Engine must start immediately!
Engine must not see under 2500 RPM for 20 minutes!
Rick"

I've heard lots of talk about "cam break-in" over the years... and I tend to think it's just that- talk. "Break-in" procedures that I've read about vary widely, but often involve some sort of magic assembly lube on the camshaft, and keeping the engine RPM well above idle for a certain amount of time after initial startup.

I've rebuilt more engines than I can count- many dozens of diesels, and merely a dozen or so gassers. Here's how I do it on an engine with flat tappets: First, I make sure all the tappets move and spin freely in their bores. You'd be surprised how often the bores and/or lifters require minor polishing, and I suspect improper rotation is responsible for quite a few lobe failures. Second, I coat the camshaft and lifters with plain ol' engine oil- no fancy lubes for me. Third, I start it and forget about it... and run/drive it however I want to. Once everything is back together- regardless of whether we're talking about an engine in a car, pickup, forlift, tractor, or semi... I run the pi$$ out of it. If it breaks or leaks, then it never would'a held anyway. Never have had a cam problem.

Here's an idea for the brave of heart... I rebuilt a German-build John Deere diesel engine in a nasty old 544 industrial loader a couple years back. The factory manual specifically said to coat the entire camshaft (lobes AND journals) with black moly grease. I thought it was wierd... but I was feeling adventurous and did just that. It worked fine.
 
IF it was mine, I would run either 15w 40 Delo or a 20w 50. I like Mineral oils and I also like 20w 50's, but thats me and I have my reasons.
 
For break in, add 1/2 to 1 qt. extra oil [to help with splash lubrication].
Don't waste your time with polishing the lifter bottoms. Leave the factory finish on them so they will mate properly with the cam.
Valvoline Synthetic Oil Treatment [VSOT]has extra anti friction and anti wear ingredients, and would be a good additive. It IS pretty thick, so judge your viscosity needs and adjust the base oil. It would also make a good assembly lube.
