Hello there everyone! Got a kinda dumb question for everyone here. Today at work, took a quart of valvoline 5w20 conventional and a quart of safety kleen 5w30 oil; poured both into 1 pint jars(glass of course), and I noticed that the valvoline looks almost like peanut oil or light cooking oil! The safety kleen oil looks darker/more amber. What is the cause/reason for this? Any help/answers and advice appreciated. I have heard from a few b.s.'ers that the oil they are finding today is a lot better and probably in different formations. I think thats total b.s.

let me know what the thoughts, opinions and what you know on this subject.

Different additive packages (different formulations)

Isnt the Valvoline beautiful looking stuff, no wonder so many mechanics prefer it. Now put them in the freezer tonight and tomarrow ask your wife which flows better, see if she can tell.

Sorry, should have said I poured some into a pint jar, as didnt pour all of a quart in there. Yeah, I do like Valvoline; just may switch back after I use the 2 5qt jugs of Super Tech 5w20 I have. I dont have a wife, and looking for a good woman also. Around my area here there aint any good looking woman, just fat, ugly and druggie women.

It's my understanding(from reading here at BOB's) that oils are dyed their color. Basicly they're clear after refining. And that the dye/colorant/pigment(what ever) is one of the most expensive addatives in the oil. Color, is the blenders choice. It gives to the customer, a preception of quality, flowability, grade, etc.

Take for example: 10W40 has the look of maple syrup where as 5W20 has a light golden honey color. Of course, this all depends on brand, and this is only an example! And I'm not saying that 20W50 would be even darker, and so on! It's a preception!

Good morning Char Baby! Thanks for the info, and I honestly posted this cause' my dad when I talked to him last night; said he got a 5qt jug of 10w30 for his dakota at Walmart and thought it looked like cooking oil. I said "hey who cares". He said that years ago he remembers most motor oil looked more amber or darker and he is a man that listens to rumors, people that dont know a lot, and my father is kind of a backwards person, that is stuck in the past. Anyways, I noticed that Super Tech 5W20 and valvoline 5w20 both are lighter looking and honestly it does not bother me a bit. Thank you very much for the info Char Baby!

True story: In '07, we traveled from TX to Pensacola Florida, and stayed a week a the Emerald Dolphin,

From our high balcony, wife and I saw the hot tub-jacuzzi by the pool was vacant, so we left the kids eating pizza in the condo and headed down. After 15 minuets or so, (I am not making this up!) Six girls from U of Alabama walked up wearing very skimpy bikini's, and asked "if there was room for more" in the jacuzzi. My wife looked like she was about to kill, but I said with a huge grin, SURE THERE'S ROOM, COME ON IN!

So, I would say, fully unbiased of course, the best looking women are from Alabama. ROLL TIDE!

Hey gffh7665, I see youre in southeast tx. I was stationed at the now defunct NAVAL STATION INGLESIDE, south of Corpus Christi area. Lot of hot women there and I dated bout 5 very attractive ladies there also. My one good friend thats still in the navy dated a woman I introduced him to, and they were married after a year and half of dating. He has a very nice 71 C-10 short bed Chevy truck with a LS2 engine in it. His wife is of Portrugese decent. Where in Southeast tx you live?

Up the coast a bit, between Galveston and Port Arthur. Hurricane alley, right where Rita, Humberto, and Ike hit during the last five years.

I love Corpus. My son had a blast visiting the USS Lexington!

I visited the USS LEXINGTON with my mother and stepfather(P-3 ORION pilot for like 17 yrs) in 2004. Had a blast myself. Hate winters here and snow in general.

I hear ya on that. I may take another trip to your area sometime this year as I get 2 weeks of vaca, and miss the corpus, and portland beach areas. Relaxation at its best. My old boss EN1(SW) LESLIE SMITH(YES he is a man) and I used to get some MILWAUKEES BEST ICE OR PREMIUM and make our own ribs, some habenero sauce, some wings, homemade food and play volleyball, and have a blast at MUSTANG BEACH in portland tx (near the base). Those years (2002-2006) were the best of my life as I did what I wanted and served my country on the govt dime.
