I drive a 1991 GMC Jimmy S15 with a 4.3L v6 (127,000 miles). I'm getting ready to change the oil again before a road trip, and am not really certain of what to use. Last change (2,700 miles ago) I had Jiffy Lube fill it with their recommended no-name 5w30. Ever since, it has seemed to run a bit more "rough" on hot days (especially on acceleration). Could anyone please give me a weight suggestion with reasoning, and explain to me whether or not I should change to synthetic at this mileage (I'm not the original owner and the mentioned oil change is the only one I've done on it). I've read that it may not be wise with seals and whatnot, but I'm somewhat clueless to this aspect of maintenance. I'm also not sure if high-mileage oils are worth messing with, or if so which ones won't ruin any seals. Thanks for any help fellas (I should add, I live in central Virginia where the temperature range is usually between 100F-5F)
