New Generac generators shipped with 30 weight oil.

My question about this is that don't most people use one weight of oil all year. How many people change their oil seasonaly in their generatrors?

99% of the time no one does it's just not practical,people just go with a good multi-viscosity oil and call it a day.

with todays oils you can get great protection out of one type oil for year around use.

I look at it as they sent 30 weight with it for break in and testing. Obviously not the best choice north of Mason-Dixon for year round use.

When i got my new gen three years ago it had briggs SAE30 in it,pulled over hard in the winter,ran that for 10 loaded hrs dumped it and in went Amsoil ACD SAE30/10w30 HDEO been on it every since, 100deg or -10 she starts and runs like a top,has over 200hrs on it now.

I got a Briggs & Stratton 5500 last month. I'm not sure what the FF was but they recommend SAE 30 for 40 F and above, 10W30 for 0 to 100 F, with the caution that above 80 F may cause increased oil consumption. 5W30 is ok from 40 F and below. All these are dino oils. They also recommend synthetic 5W30 at all temp ranges. I purchased 4 quarts of B&S synthetic 5W30 for $4.78/qt. I'm set for a while. I changed the FF fill out after running ~3 hours with being loaded and unloaded. The oil came out nasty looking compared to my vehicles. B&S recommends to change the FF after 5 hours then 50 hours or once a year there after.

My coleman 3500 has over a thousand hours on it. All hours using syn oil including break-in. 0w30 first hundred hrs, 5w20 or 0w20perferred since. 75hr oci's no oil make-up.
