Yesterday I bought a 07 Fusion 2.3 4 cyl. 38,000 miles and looks great. Traded in the old 96 Merc GM 217,000 miles. Still a good car but with all the trips to Florida we make, 18 in the Merc, the wife wanted something newer. Just changed the oil this morning and put in M1 5-30EP. Will change out the transmission fluid next week with M1 ATF.

A lot newer than my 98 Taurus.......Have fun....

How's the 98 Taurus doing? A friend has a 2000 and it now has 300,000 miles. I hope the Fusion will go that long.

There is no way in a trillion years your wife will let you keep the Fusion for 300K miles if she made you get rid of Grand Marquis with only 216K miles.

The Fusion is real nice and good luck with it but I think this was huge mistake..Since you take alot road trips to Florida you should have gotten another Grand Marquis IMHO..My buddy just bought a 07 Grand Marquis LS for 13K bucks with only 23K miles on it..For long road trips the Grand Marquis would have been so much nicer..I am also really surprised you got the 4 cyl instead of the V6..I think that was another big mistake since you do all that traveling out on the interstate.

My sister rented a 09 Fusion 4 cyl for a week after someone hit her Grand Marquis and took off..She said it was OK but couldn't wait to get back into her Grand Marquis.

I hope things work out well for you but after your first trip to Florida you will realize you should have gotten a Grand Marquis.. Plus the Grand Marquis is alot safer to drive out there on the highway..I am sure you have seen some nasty wrecks out there.

Do you plan on doing 10K oci like what you did on the 96 Grand Marquis?

Crownvic4 life,
You may be right about the GM. It was a nice car, but this Fusion isn't bad for comfort, ride quality, or highway power. I was going to have to spend some money on the GM, tires and the radiator had a weap on the lower conner just above the drain valve. Figured $650 would do it. Also I was beginning to feel a little suspension wobble in the stearing. All in all the GM was a wonderful car.

Yes I do plan to do the 10,000 OCI with the Fusion as I do with the Focus.

The Duratech 4 cyl. is a pretty new engine from Ford, but from my past history with Ford engines, back to a 1969 Farilane, longivity is on my side. At any rate I now have two of them so I certainly hope they both run for many miles.

That's funny. All of my Ford's have more than that on them. Two of them have almost 3x that mileage.

Duratec's have been around since 94 overseas 01 here in the states, which I guess in Ford's case that isn't very long. I've never seen a duratec with a bad uoa on here. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get over 500k easily with one.

Edit: Oops looks like early as 96 the duratec was put into the Taurus.. must read more.

Eric,
Thanks for that info on the Duratech 4cyl.I didn't know that Ford had that design out for that long. I did one UOA on the Focus last year with 9500 mile OCI and, it was very good on the wear numbers.

Grats on the new(to you) car bud, I'm sure it will give you many many happy commuting miles. The GM is a nice car(funny because everyone has been speaking about them lately i've been seeing em EVERYWHERE!!!).

I need a $300 hoopty that gets 45mpg's and runs good so I save money lol, my Xterra slurps gas like a baby drinks a bottle of milk. Gone gone gone!

90s escort or Cavalier would work.

Co worker has a 98 Cav as a work beater. It has 181k on it now, and gets 32mpgs with no problems. She paid 650 for it.

I'm definately going back to Ford with the way my cavalier rotted away, needing a new fuel pump right after the warranty was up

and the several things getting on my nerves about my Impala as well.
