Lucky you. I tried watching 1080p content off of Youtube and my connection choked. I am stuck with 480p on a good day.

I think that may be more of an issue with Youtube than with your connection. Try some other HD source such as Hulu or Netflix.
 
How are you guys watching TV for free over the internet? Can you plug your computer into your TV somehow?

All you need is a cable to plug the computer into the tv, I watch a lot of old episodes of shows that way, lost, the office, mad men etc. but I dont know how to watch regular broadcasts in real time

Once upon a time, when pterodactyls soared above the earth and TV Guide was an indispensable handbook to what was on the tube, I used to buy the Fall Preview issue every year without fail. (I still have a lot of them, including, if I recall right, the 1990 premiere of "Law and Order.") But it's turned into a gossip rag now.

For some reason, though, I bought this year's issue. Nearly all the dramatic shows look like they will require a major investment of mental energy -- they'll probably all have continuing storylines that will arc over entire seasons, and if you miss one or two episodes, boom, you're Lost. The comedies seem like retreads of earlier fare. And all the good stuff ("Mad Men," etc.) is on premium cable ($$$).

"House" is always worth watching; I love Lauren Graham, so "Parenthood" has that going for it; and "Modern Family" has Sofia Vergara. "Human Target" seems the only dramatic show with action, humor, and style.

I'll try more than a few of 'em. But I wish the editor of TVG wouldn't inject his opinion of each new series. It seems unfair to kick the legs out from under a new series before it even gets a chance to run.
 
I caught Five-O last night and it was pretty disappointing. The only character that was in the least bit interesting was Danno. The others were all very cliche.

Grace Park is always nice eye candy though.
 
Somewhat off-topic, but the Detroit Newspapers stopped delivery of the TV Guide about two years ago, and now offer it for extra cost, much to my irritation. I heard this may be true nationwide. Can anyone verify?

What do you guys do to look at program schedules for the week?

Pick up a Saturday Windsor Star... it has all the programming in it for our area.

On a side note...what is with the Freep and News...a sad mere shadow of what they once were. The newspaper industry in this country is circling the drain! Sad in my book.

I have to agree with that.....Detroit 187 should be alot better.

As far as sitcoms go I do not watch any of them due to the use of laughing machines...How so many people sit and watch them [like shows like the late Raymond] really baffles me....But after a stressful day whatever floats your boat and makes you happy is all that counts.
 
It's a balancing act to write a show that's its own capsule but also has an over-reaching arc to addict the viewers. US is pretty good at that. Be thankful for every written show, even if it's a procedural drama (*cough* cop show *cough*), that it's not a reality or massaged reality like "the hills" (vomit.) If the story arc is too strong it hurts the show in reruns.

X-files for example was pretty lame when they kept threatening to close the X-files or fire mulder or whatever, let's just have a alien come up through the pipes in the middle of a hurricane.

Or take a perfectly good show and start having everyone sleep with each other. Cap it off with a may sweeps week wedding. Do chicks really dig this?

I use yahoo tv for my listings, but rarely schedule watching. I have a youtube downloader that gets me the HD mp4 I can watch on my own schedule without buffering.
 
I used to watch Big Bang as well as 3.5 Men but like most other comedy's, they all make reference to ___.

Thank goodness I have satellite television and don't have to watch network channels anymore!

BBC (America) is a great way to get away from that sort of thing. The actors/actresses are a magnitude uglier... but, of course, convincing professionals, and the writing/production up to world standards.

And of course, they have Top Gear.

Watch an episode and you wonder when the last time NBC/CBS/ABC/Fox spent all that money on venues, plane tickets, logistics, etc.

New shows I'm starting to like are:
  • Rubicon
  • Mad Men

I realise "Mad Men" is in S4 now, but it's new to me.

Judge Judy would have been more entertaining.

You know.....at the last minute I decided to watch a Netflix dvd that came that day in the mail. I just knew that I would be let down by Five-O, being the old school person that I am. From what everybody has said, I made a better choice.
 
Interesting. We (wifey and I) thought 5-0 was much better than Detroit 187. We thought Detroit was rather boring -- NOTHING like 'Blue it claimed to be. NYPD Blue was still the best (in our opinion).

Going to try "Defenders" tonight, and Shatner's sitcom tomorrow. Other than that, it will be just the old shows for us: CSIs, Mentalist, Bones, Survivor 137, etc.
