Individuals have liability on used cars in Kalifornia?


Around here the judge would tell you shouldnt have bought a horse without lookin' at its teeth...

I think he meant that on a personal level. If you sell a car to a family/friend, it opens up the door for potential of ruining a relationship if the person you sold it to starts having problems with it (which is bound to happen on a 10 year old car with 200K miles)... every time they see you they complain that this broke, and that broke, and something else needed to be fixed that they weren't expecting, indirectly accusing you of selling them a lemon. And then you feel obligated to help them fix it...

Taking a friend to court = losing a friend. For a few hundred bucks, it's definitely not worth it.
 
The CA liability law covers used cars where if the new buyers brake fails, I will be in court doing some serious explanation.

I cannot afford a retainer agreement with my attorney costing $20K for brakes failing on the new owner. Just now worth it..

The dealer dumps the vehicle in auction, auction is a different story, buyer is buying assuming no liability...could even be a lemon!!! The user car manager old me that it may be taken apart and sold as items which most commonly happens..
