New Engine Oil Progression

Well, my new 22RE engine in my 89 4Runner now has about 500 miles on it. It got three quick oil changes due to some early oil pressure issues, so I'm planning to make a highway adventure this weekend of about 700 miles and then changing the oil. I am currently running 5w30 Mobil 5000 and am considering switching to 5w30 Mobil 7500 next on the way to Royal Purple when I switch to synthetic.

Royal Purple recommneds at least 2,000 miles before switching, does it matter when I switch to blend?

I had a really bad UOA with Royal Purple. Will never use it again. Curious why your are planning on running it.
And the answer is no...you can switch to synthetics/blends or conventional anytime you wish.

Hey mitchcoyote ,what kind`ve results did you get from Royal Purple? I tried their 20W50 one time. It was awesome for a few hundred miles,then I started getting lifter tick on cold starts,and then even had smoke coming out of the exhaust on cold starts.

Put Mobil 1 15W50 back in and never had that problem since. Purrs like a kitten!

Another guy on one of the Z forums had the same results that I had with RP. I wonder why????????

This a rebuilt engine? On a new engine, I ran the 5k for one OCI and the 75k for 2 OCIs after leaving the FF for 5050 miles. Hope that helps. I put my first ful synthetic at 26,800 miles. I chose PP from the used oil analysis right here at BITOG and also the BOGOF at AAP. RP sucks although a buddy of mine uses it on his Mazda trucks and swears by it. For toyotas, I hear good things about M1 if you can afford it, otherwise PP will give you equal GRP III performance at 20-30% better price assuming a 5 qt jug of M1 is even available at your local Walmart.

Do it,M1 is a great oil..

Mobil1 or RP, both are great oils. You shouldnt really worry about it, though. Any full synthetic will be a great oil for you.
