Good evening I have a new 24 4.3 L express cargo first oil change at 500 miles. Second oil change at 1495 miles. And boy did the oil smell like fuel not sure if short trips had anything to do with it less than 10 miles for the first 1300 miles after the initial 500 mile change I got high just off the fumes 😂. First and second oil change was Castrol edge 5w30. (Black bottle) I guess I will follow the severe service oil changes 3000 mi instead of the norm 5000 or is there a better oil option that’s off the shelf that will help with the fuel dilution. I also forgot to mention there was no excessive idling, which I know that causes fuel in a DI engine. Thank you all in advance.

just stay with Castrol Edge 5w-30,its good as any ,or use the EP version in the gold jug and try a couple of 3-4k changes with filter, and like any newer vehicle drive with a light foot and not stomping on the accelerator which can add to fuel dilution ,until you have more miles on vehicle. Making sure the engine comes up to full operating temperature.

Work van? Or one of the baller looking travel van like this? I would drive the crap outta one of these.

Give Valvoline Restore and protect a try 😏

If the fuel smell is really as bad as you say you might want to do an oil analysis to check fuel dilution just for grins and giggles. It's not like there has never been a HP fuel pump with bad seals.
That’s not a bad idea maybe on the next exchange
