New Dodge Hornets reported as selling 33 percent below MSRP- worth consideration??

There are so many great midside SUV options. What is the value proposition of the Hornet? What is it good at?
According to this it is good at “ Kicking Ass”. 😀

Times change, but guys desires for vehicles not readily available never change. I am currently working in Asia, and have been shopping for a 25+ year old Land Rover Defender, to purchase and ship back to the U.S.

Good Lord, why? :D

Having done it, well from Europe, PM if you have any questions.

Even with the discount I think its a pass. Dealers can’t sell them and mechanics can’t fix them.
It’ll be discontinued soon, parts will become scarce and resale will be low.
Lots of hate on the Hornet & Tonale owners forums, but to be fair most forums have more complaints than compliments.

I had this thought, too, and thought,

see also: Jeep Commander, the early Caravans with turbo 4, et al

Can anyone name other CDJR/Stellantis/FCA/Daimler oddballs that either bombed or were so scarce no one remembers them? How 'bout the Daytona, GT3000 and Lazer?

Point being the Hornet seems to be heading that direction.

The Prowler! I've seen more Daytona's and Talons/Lasers than I've ever seen Prowlers, heck, I see more Vipers, lol.

Oh man I knew a kid in high school w a Talon, I thought that was THE coolest car then!!

I see also the KL Cherokee was mentioned in the thread and it's a good example of junk (I'm sorry, they are) that it's ok to embrace because they're VERY common on the roads, at least around here. Much like Nissan and Kia, they attracted buyers who couldn't afford Toyota or Honda cute utes.

Every indy will know every common problem on your KL but the Hornet will be an oddball. However @GON will at least be resourceful enough to find the true problem on YT and forums and tell the mechanic the actual way to fix it!

The KL's issue was the Tigershark engine in General - which I agree was junk. Possibly the later models were fixed - don't know, but you could make the same statement to any vehicle with that engine. They should have stuck with the Fiat 1.6.

The early Chrysler built 9HP's were problems also. Did those eventually get fixed?

However, friend has a Pentastar v6 trailhawk version. Uses it for mild softroading, and has many miles and no issues.

Don't they train (dealer) mechanics on new models?

Nah, radiators fail left and right, front struts leak early, and there's some issue with massive failure of the "PTU" that renders it effectively undriveable.

There's also a turbo 4 option that was rare, sounds like a tractor and leaks oil whenever possible.

The 3.2 gets the exact same infamous oil cooler as the 3.6 Pentastar

My parents' '18 got the "Implausible Shift Blah Blah" error and needed a new harness at the shifter (get your tiny hands ready, BTDT)

I've never even laid hands on the weird TigerShark multi-air thing.

If I needed an SUV I'd drive one, but they're maintenance-heavy.

According to Data, 2014 and 2015 were pretty bad, and after they were pretty much middle of the road.

I have no horse in the race - never owned one, probably never will.

I read the entire linked thread and enjoyed it. At one point they accused a guy of trolling who was just speaking the truth about new Dodge cars in general: give it a cool name, lots of advertising bluster, then close your eyes and hope it floats. Dodge does it time and again and it really is a pattern of behavior.

Most of the posts were from '23 but a few very recently. The more recent posts were about dead batteries-- maybe they really have fixed some of the issues with interior lights, collision avoidance, adaptive cruise etc???? <-----it's difficult to say they fixed something with a straight face, but hope springs eternal
