New Dodge Hornets reported as selling 33 percent below MSRP- worth consideration??

Recently watched a video that 2024 Dodge Hornets are not selling, and that dealers have two years' worth of new Dodge Hornets on their lots.

It is reported Stellantis is offering retail buyers of the Hornet a $8k USD rebate, and Dodge dealers are taking off an additional $3k USD to try and move a Hornet off the lot. I know next to nothing about the Hornet--- but have to ask the question, is a new Hornet at 33 percent off MSRP worthy of consideration?

The Stellantis $8k USD rebate apparently is on the plug-in hybrid Hornet, with an average MSRP of $46k USD.

Every car is a good deal when the price is right.

I looked at my local dealer "hoover the mover" $27,500 for a basic really small SUV is still no screaming deal, but not bad. $34K for a plug in hybrid likely never pays for itself with South Carolina gas prices either, but again not bad.

They were way overpriced which is why they were a flop likely.

Even with the discount I think its a pass. Dealers can’t sell them and mechanics can’t fix them.
It’ll be discontinued soon, parts will become scarce and resale will be low.
Lots of hate on the Hornet & Tonale owners forums, but to be fair most forums have more complaints than compliments.
This rant is typical of what’s out there

Why can't mechanics fix them? Once parts are gone I agree, but is there an inherent issue?

Nope too many people were buying trailhawk cherokees under 30k.
now this smaller mini cuv (cant get 4 adults in it comfortably) is 50k?

The rear seat room was more limited than a cx-30 for sizing reference.
I sat in one at the Cleveland auto show.

The other day a dealer had a few ...all reduced/priced down and it was still 32k for an almost base trim.

There was a huge market for these if they could have priced the phev ones low to mid thirties.
and the others below 30k. at least for the lower trims.

A few years back I posted about these.. they were 10k+ off msrp in PA only..
I live in Ohio.. and even with the tax credit they were mid to high 40's out the door.

A number of Hornet and Tonale early adopters have been having issues with electrical gremlins that vary in the levels of mischief that they cause. You might want to spend some time on dedicated forums and learn all the issues that are popping up, and see if you want to roll the dice on this vehicle.

Also, check out what needs to be done to clear the service maintenance messages in the infotainment system.
The SGW module is built into the BCM on these vehicles, and are very difficult to reset oil service messages, which may be found frustrating if you prefer to DIY.

There are so many great midside SUV options. What is the value proposition of the Hornet? What is it good at?

these arent midsize. imo 4" shorter than a forester but smaller than that inside.

and a forester at 182 is considered compact.

So this is subcompact cuv.

AT 33% off the phev one could be somewhat sporty. The other ones who knows. mpg mediocre and small size.. trax competitor?.. but wait 5-10k more.

Edit: actually at these prices.. it is a trax competitor...

Stellantis resurrected the old AMC moniker "Hornet". "Gremlin" is more appropriate. If you have plenty of free time to deal with the problems and like hanging out at the dealer go for it. AAA super plus is also a requirement.:)
why do you need AAA when it comes with roadside assistance and towing? or the AAA was just throw in for bashing? ;)

You can probably negotiate an even better price at the dealer. I'd buy one if it the dealer throws in at least a 100k mile warranty (BECAUSE ITS GOING TO NEED IT).

  • Basic Warranty: 36 months / 36,000 miles
  • Drivetrain Warranty: 60 months / 60,000 miles
  • Corrosion Warranty: 60 months / Unlimited miles
  • Roadside Assistance Warranty: 60 months / 60,000 miles

I wouldn't consider anything built by Stellantis, period.

Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/Ram: dead to me.

And I have been a fan for decades. Sad times.

Putting a 2008 Dodge Caliber with a CVT in my driveway would make more sense.
Always just been Cummins shipping crates. The gas jobs... pfffttt
