Some of you may remember that my F150 died. The cam phasers went bad or had some other catastrophic failure. There was a ton of metal shavings in the oil, and throughout the motor.

I looked at used trucks for approximately 3 months but with the approximate 7k in negative equity I could not find anything within my budget.

Today, I went and looked at used cars hoping to at least get into something mobile and offload the truck. To my surprise, even with a 5k down payment to eat up some negative equity, banks would not make a decent loan offer. High interest and high payments.

The Honda dealer at the local auto group ran the numbers and got me into a new 2026 Honda HR-V LX WITH GAP just over my budget. Now I have a safe, reliable, efficient, and actually mobile car to take
the kids around town in.

Of course, I don’t have the capability of a pickup but to remedy this, we are going to buy a utility trailer to tow with our Expedition Max.

I am very pleased with it so far. Lots of standard features in the base model. Apple CarPlay, and Honda Sensing. The only thing I am wishing it had so far was individual TPMS readings.

This is my first Honda and I’m excited!

Honda is awesome, and your HR-V doesn't even have a turbo :D

You won't miss the individual TPMS readings when it's time for new tires, and Honda's indirect TPMS means no expensive sensors to go bad!

Honda has a maintenance minder that tells you when it's time for service. They also don't pretend anything is lifetime fill.
The CVT is easy to change the fluid on, even easier than an oil change. Do the job cold, drain it, and refill with the same amount. No scan tool needed.

We are going to purchase a utility trailer and tow it with our expedition max. It is already setup with the hitch and wiring. I should have thought about that sooner.

Yes everything I’m reading says exactly this. It is going to be a great vehicle for the kids to learn the road, and take a drivers test in.

I almost had buyers remorse, thinking I should have gone with the escape but quickly remembered it has turbos! Hopefully we can take good enough care of the expedition so the turbos don’t fail.
 
I like those new re-styled HRVs. They look a little like an S2000.... And a little like a Ford Escape.

Check out that heat shield behind the alternator! They don't want no heat getting through there!
 
I don’t know what it is about Japanese cars not having individual sensors in the TPMS. My Mazda is the same way. My mother’s 2013 Honda accord constantly lights on the TPMS if the tires are not within a pound or two of each other. I don’t mind checking tire pressures ( I do it every two weeks with my vehicles, even though the Hyundai has individual readouts), but it’s nice to know them on the fly, so to speak. Are you concerned with the CVT transmission? It is a nice looking vehicle though, and I’m sure you won’t have to worry too much overall. Have you already started to plan what oil you are going to use in it? :D
