New Car Oil Flush?

Hondas do not come with special break in oil---the engine makes its own break-in oil. Crazy? not so. The moly coated piston skirts from the factory leach moly into the engine as the coating on them wears off (breaks-in). This is why they want you to keep the FF in there.

He was lucky he drained the Factory fill early, rather than leave it there.

I bet he also won a 100 million dollar lottery, and earlier was struck by lightening too on the very same day.

How about showing us where we can find the story about that on the
webz. LOL

False. I remember my old Honda manual from the 90s says that a special Honda break in oil is the FF and should be left in for about 5000 miles. While what you say MAY also be true it is not the main reason why they say to leave it in.

I worked at a Honda dealer and we had occasional visits from the
factory field service rep, and this question did in fact come up.
We were told that the special break in oil was NOT ONLY added Moly but other proprietary additives and customers should be advised to run the FF to the miles stated in their owner's manual or 5000 miles in general for best engine longevity and performance.

It's right here on BITOG's PCMO subforum. You probably already read the story & saw the photo of the plastic (dropped in engine during manufacture). Had the owner listened to you guys, he would still be running the original oil, and that leftover factory junk would still be floating around & causing engine wear.

Why wait? Why take the risk? Drain the oil and get that casting sand/factory dust/etc out of there.

Realistically, though, one could also drop sealing foil in or the lid from the jug, too. That's probably more likely than finding plastic from assembly inside the engine.

I might prefer an early change, but not because of the risk of plastic being in an engine.

Anyone who believes a new Honda has casting sand or other significant debris in it hasn't seen a modern engine assembly room.

And one anecdotal story about a bad example doesn't indict the entire line up. What if the plastic piece was too big to come out the drain? There could be more!

The whole "early oil change" is just like a bigger filter. It's a 'feel good' mod that won't hurt much, but is definitely not necessary...

Honda already has a special break-in oil. I don't advocate deviating

Really, would anyone else on this forum like to see a VOA of this special break-in oil in Honda's??

My position is that it really won't matter. Your engine will go over 200k miles either way.

Make a choice or flip a coin...your call.

Well my opinion is:

Changing your oil early, following a severe service schedule (3000-4000 miles), will not cause any harm to the engine. Those posters saying changing your oil early is a "bad idea" are just spreading FUD. If you feel more comfortable treating the initial breakin as severe service, then go ahead & do it. Your car; your freedom of choice.

So much mis-information. I wonder how many people who replied to this Honda specific question has ever owned a Honda or read a Honda owner's manual.
