I've never tried these buying services, such as going thru Edmunds, yahoo, new cars etc (Come to think about it, I did use New Cars Etc in 1998 adn thought I got a good deal, but when I found out that the locjack I had bought from them hadn't been installed and they ignored my calls, well I decided never again), costco, etc. I've always done it myself, but have always wondering if I am getting a good deal.

What about going thru the fleet car salesperson?

Any comments regarding letting these services do the work and which would you recommend?

While some of us think buying a car is a game and it can be fun, maybe I'm getting too old for it and rather not play the game and just get a fair and good deal.

My sister and her husband have used the Costco service a few times. However, you can get a better deal, that's just basically reduces the starting price. I want to say they've used it three times, and each time they went in with the Costco price and negotiated a better deal on top of it, so it just gave them a better price point to start with.

When purchasing my last car, I knew exactly what I wanted to get so I went to the manufacturer's website and looked up all the dealerships in my area that were within a reasonable traveling distance. I then emailed them all with the exact info on what I wanted to buy and let them know that I was okay with waiting if they had to order it. If I recall, it took me about 20 minutes at the computer, and about an hour at the dealership to do the paperwork, but I got what was an amazing deal on my car at the time. Though I will say to use your non-primary email address, cause when some dealerships get your email address, they seem to never stop contacting you.

I get on the Internet and do my homework.

Get the best price from local dealer then look around some. By near the end of the month they get desperate as they get some extra perks from the company based on sales.

You can bet they will call and then you can get serious.

Don't pay for dealer prep, etc.

Check the following web site it can give you some good pointers and save you some cash.

I absolutely abhor price haggling. To me, it is a pointless song and dance just vaguely removed from a warped mating ritual.

Fortunately, I work for a bank that handles the accounts for nearly all the Manufacturers. I get the fixed supplier pricing from them all. I walk in with my code and the dealer pulls out the pricing sheet. It is what it is.
