More like: Bigdaddyeasy --> Mrsandman --> ManofSteel.

I don't think jk636 is related.

The Toyota filter looks fine too though.
Maybe your not as intelligent as you like to think you are???

Perhaps your eyesight needs to be checked, or your definition of perfectly spaced needs to be challenged. I see a Bosch filter here with uneven pleat spacing, contrary to your assertion of perfectly spaced pleats. And, the only filter with anything resembling perfect pleat spacing in this thread is the Toyota.

Take the sand out of your eyes before you make such far fetched assertions.
be nice. I said it's perfectly fine not perfectly spaced. It dosent need to be perfectly spaced to filter well.

I agree 1000%. Garak is one of the smartest, brightest and nicest cats in here. Between him and Shannow I have asked technical questions about oil which I felt 100% confident in their answers.

I feel the same way about Zee0six, car51, and several others about oil filter information. These guys have the know how, experience, and understanding how things work.

Welloiled has done a great job dissecting a Fram Ultra filter here recently. He's a great addition here too !

It hasn't so far.

Anyone who is so emotionally desperate as to create multiple screen names on an Internet chat board, whether due to being previously banned or because they wish to create imaginary "support" for their own posts, is just pathetic.

Very sad.

Well, "perfectly fine" is subjective. I disagree that it's perfectly fine. In days past, I would have agreed. But, that was before we had tearing issues. We know they can make filters that have even pleat spacing and no tears. They just need to start doing it again. They've either fixed it or they have not. We'll see.

WellOiled: Looking at the user list, it would appear this incarnation has been banned, at least temporarily. I suppose he waits it out or it's back to the sock drawer for him.

+1 on this Garak. Wide pleat spacing is just not a good idea for these Purolator made filters. This seams to be the area where tears occur. This is likely not the only variable associated with this.

It is my hope and expectation that all of us would be men of valor and honor. And if not, then at least be leaning in that direction. The incarnation above meets the definition of an internet troll. He has no intention of leaning in that direction.

The incarnation above shows up in the thread above. All of the other members posting in the thread just ignored him. So far it is a professional thread and appears everyone is contributing what they can. I think the creators of the site would like that.

This one has the widest pleat space I have seen yet. 3/4". But since the media is different and the geometry is different, this may be a don't care. We will not know until someone does a used filter analysis. By the looks of it someone will beat me to it.

It just seemed to snowball on Purolator. I defended the waves. I defended the pleat spacing. I can't defend torn media or ripped ADBVs. The defenders can say what they want, though. They can read back, look at the posts. Compare the days of the Puros with the string tied, and the strict attention to detail to what happened after that. Look at their Rotella filters. They seem better than the rest. Did Shell warn them to do things right? It's interesting to note that I can't think of any examples of a torn Pennzoil or Quaker State filter, while they're Purolator made. Perhaps Shell laid the law down.

Or Shell has an agreement that calls for performance to a specification. If an engine blows due to the filter, Puro pays for the repairs. I do not know. Shell is big and they have good engineering and legal staff.

Everytime I see a defect on a Purolator made filter, it becomes more difficult to defend it.

I am very amazed when you show people the problem and they continue to defend it. That I will never understand.

I think most people in the know have already moved on to something better/safer.

Yep. It's pretty bad that the bottom end QS filter has less quality control issues than the P1 or Bosch Premium. I'm surprised that Bosch tolerated that nonsense, particularly after severing its ownership ties.

Garak,

I came to the party late. So I don't have the history and depth of knowledge that you and others have.

After reading many posts and cutting a few filters I have concluded that Purolator started an efficiency war they could not win because they ignored product quality.

It appears filters with low to medium filter efficiency are the best buys with acceptable reliability at least for conventional OCI. My experience with synthetic is Mobil One and Motorcraft filters that I now know tear and might be rusty.

Therefore it is no surprise to me there are decent low end filters that trump Purolator Classic and P1 WRT reliability.

I'm not sure what went wrong on their end. I'm never too terribly worried about efficiency, but obviously, if two filters are identical and one has better efficiency, I'd want that.

What really floored me was their ill advised venture into Walmart Canada. When I heard of it, I thought this was going to be fantastic. Bosch Premiums, P1s, Classics, Synthetics, the whole bit, and I'm going to be able to get a filter cheaper than Fram and everyone else out there! I thought it would be back to the days of choice, like when Walmart had AC Delcos for $2, although I knew the $2 bit was gone.

Instead, the price was higher than Fram, and higher than my other Purolator sources online, by a significant margin. Then, the other Purolator sources couldn't get stock. And, the tearing issue was coincidental to this. So, the option was to spend more money than I used to on a filter that tears? And they wonder why Walmart showed them the exit.
