buster,

I see no issues with running the re-formulated Series 2000, 0w-30 in ACEA A3/B3 and/or VW 502.00 applications, even though it's slightly below the 3.5 Cp spec limit. I certainly intend to use it in my Audi TT roadster and I'm sure it will work perfectly. At least technically, however, it's now a "VW 503.00" formulation (HT/HS in the 2.9-3.4 Cp range), and not VW 502.00

The S2000 formulation is extremely shear stable, so it will maintain that 3.3 Cp viscosity even in a turbo application....

If you could run a 3.3 HT/HS oil in a car that calls for a 3.5, then you could run RL 5w-20 at 3.3 or M1 10w-30 at 3.2. I wouldn't do it but I'm sure if the analysis looks ok, your fine.

I've always thought too many people on here focus on the ACEA A3 spec too much. If your car calls for it, that is one thing, if not then who cares about it.

I don't think valvetrain wear or oil consumption will go up at all with these new Amsoil formulations. That IMO, as I've said before is a chemistry issue and not a viscosity issue. Once again, something people focus way too much time and energy on.

I'm not questioning that one may be able to run an oil with an HTHS of less than 3.5 in an engine that requires ACEA A3 oil, I'm just wondering how an oil that does not meet the ACEA A3 minimum HTHS requirement can still meet the spec.

And by the way, for you information, Mr buster, VW and Audi seem to drop their low HTHS oil specs in favor of new normal HTHS (=/>3.5) oils (medium/low SAPS, VW 504/507). I don't think VW or their customers were happy with the low-HTHS oils.

mori I agree with you. What I was saying was in response to TS. He said he would run the 0w-30 at 3.3 in a car spec'd for A3. A3 is ONLY met @ 3.5. So if an oil doesn't met that numer, it doesn't meet A3. My other point was that if you have a car, like mine, doesn't call for a A3 oil, then you don't need to have one. Some have insisted they need it when they don't.

Oh, I see. Where's my coffee?

Are you sure your car does not require an A3 oil in other parts of the world?

Where are you guys getting these new specs? Just curious because I have been going over all the specs on Amsoil's website and none of them match what is being quoted here. Where can I get the new specs for these oils and how do I which spec oil I will get if I order some?

thedawk - I got the HT/HS for the "ACD" SAE30 from an email sent to Amsoil...off their website re: "Tech" question, by which you can inquire of them directly. Try it, they're pretty responsive.

Thanks jbas. I'm a little bit frustrated with Amsoil if their website info is not correct. Why leave it up there if it's wrong?

I'll see about trying to contact the tech line like you mentioned.

"I'm a little bit frustrated with Amsoil if their website info is not correct. Why leave it up there if it's wrong?"

Totally agree w/you. And there are many errors, like the 10W-40 oil stating two different HT/HS numbers (body of report and then in the table below), oil filter numbers that don't exist, etc. etc. A shame because the Amsoil website is superior to many others, having detailed and pertient info. E.g., the drill-down oil/filter/parts info for the engine/vehicle models is terrific stuff.

As to where TooSlick/Pablo get their Amsoil info, I think they have a red phone & direct line to the Kremlin.

I think a lot of it has to do with Amsoil growing so fast, they can't keep up with pace. Every day, every month, every year, sales are up.
