If this was 20 years ago, Amsoil would be steering their Euro customers towards one of the Signature Series oils. But instead, they are now formulating products that are more closely aligned with the OEM recommendation. It seems like there is a 180 deg shift in philosophy - perhaps these OE standards should not be taken lightly?

The chemistry comes from Europe for many of these Euro oils (probably Infineum). The OEMs have very specific and stringent requirements and want certain things in their oils. While emissions are part of the reason, so is performance levels. They're often looking at wear patterns across multiple components that go beyond what the North American API specs call for. The chemistry is more towards lower ash levels as we all know. The more ashless chemistry and add packs for these oils is more expensive though. I'd be inclined to use the Amsoil Euro over the SS in a GDI engine I think.

10W60? WOW, catching up 20yrs later.
As for 0W30:
LL01FE but HTHS 3.5?????????
LL01FE but also MB229.51/52, VW504.00/507.00?????

Again, one of those: We know better than manufacturers what kind of approvals they specify; therefore trust us when it comes to their specifications.

Castrol is doing the 3.5 HTHS “suitable” for FE also. But yeah, the spec combination is strange.

Suitable after having actual LL01 listed.
And they are actually 100% right.

Combination is not strange, it is impossible if oil actually meets specifications of LL01FE or vice versa.

Well we should give them a break. LL01FE does have a max hths of 3.5 which I always thought was odd.

Arguably, their concoction probably passes most of the LL01FE tests but fundamentally doesn't qualify since it may or may not meet the fuel efficiency standards.
Maybe, but OTOH we have ACEA C3 M1 ESP 5w30 with a HTHS of over 3.5 and it meets FE requirement under C2.

Maybe the Amsoil product just has a really high dose of FM?
