It looks purty... and not so much like an econobox. But it probably gets less MPGs than the accents of old too.
It also resembles a Subaru WRX 5 door
Dang - that's pretty good MPG.
To me it actually looks much better than the horribly overdone Elantra of current Gen.
It's going to be a big seller, I feel.

USA members: Remeber the Datsun B210 "Honey bee" that advertised 100HP in the 70's? That was one of the slowest ecoboxes ever and its obvious that Nissan was lying about the HP. I would say the same with the Accent - the previous/current one was rated same as my Yaris, but they run like slugs on the road. No Korean cars for me, unless they are made stateside then I migh consider ( and I am in love with the Genesis Coupe 2.0T and wont allow myself to buy it!). S.Korea has a one-way trade gate - OUT only. Not a friend to the USofA for sure. Wake up or loose this country for good. Its almost well done now. Hate LG and what tehy are doing to US.

I kinda doubt that anyone buying the cheapest econobox from a brand known to cater for econoboxes would expect a lot of speed from it. (Our 2003 Elantra is pretty peppy for its 140 or so HP). I really think brands like Hyundai should be there and happy for their success, otherwise dishonest and big headed companies like Toyota and Honda would dominate - Hyundai gives them a pretty good fight right now.

I doubt that they'll be "lying" about the cars HP, though functional power you'll see on the road and what can be done in testing are two different animals. Peak HP numbers are typically at RPM's people don't actually see.

2012 Accent: 36.75 MPG (6.4 L/100km) City - 50.04 MPG (4.7 L/100km) Highway
That means the new 2012 Accent, using the same test, beats its predecessor by 4.53 MPG City and 8.78 MPG Highway. That's an impressive fuel economy improvement of 14% City and 21.2% Highway.

Oh, Ok, yes you are right.
With the new 1.6l DI engine, the Accent and the veloster are getting more HP and way better fuel economy.
The new Elantra is a good step forward too, fuel economy wise.

My dad had a couple of B210s. They both got wiped out by drunk drivers while parked on the side of the street.
Neither would be considered quick. Our 5 door 1976 Volkswagen Rabbit would flat run away from both B210s. (to be fair, the Mark1 Rabbit was quicker to 50 than a lot of V8 powered cars of that time)
I don't remember the Honeybee's advertised 100hp. But I do remember Datsun advertising 50 mpg from the B210. I'm pretty sure that was an exagerrated figure.

This is the last winter I plan on driving my Corvette every day, and one of the cars I'm considering getting as a daily driver/winter mobile is this new 2012 Accent. The Fiesta was originally at the top of my list but if the Accent ends up selling for the same price or less, it's 18 extra horsepower and higher MPG will sway me to Hyundai. I also think the new Accent looks better than the Fiesta too.
Never saw a 100hp B210. My 80's Sentras were rated at 70hp and by '89 about 90hp. I'd guess that the B210's that I borrowed and drove had similar HP to the 80's Sentra, and never saw it advertised as a 100hp. 50mpg with 50-70hp was pretty common back then and nothing exotic.
If the Accent MPG is correct, it'll be a hot seller as long as the fit/finish quality is good. Hyundai has come a long way.
Not sure why someone is babbling about SK trade. We export plenty to them. We do have a trade imbalance but the one with China is considerably worse and I doubt that there is anyone alive that doesn't own something made in China. So, buy that Genesis.

I had one of those .. 4 speed model. Ran all day on a cupful of gas ;good thing ,cause it took all day to get anywhere! Hitachi 2bbl. carb with a little window in the bowl so you could see the rust flakes wandering by
Early Datsuns' were neat, reliable cars. Used to see a lot of them on the road, but they were always rusty! LOL
No way a 70's B-210 had 100HP - 70 if you were lucky! They only had a 1.4L, OHV I-4.

When we lived in Japan, mom had a 210 Sunny. That car leaked like a sieve (it was used, who knows how old it was). They sold it and bought a Toyota Corona. Dad had one of the Mitsubishi/Jeep Land Roverish hybrids. Neat products over there.
