New 2008 Malibu - OCI and Switch to Syn

Guys-

I just bought a 2008 Malibu w/ a 3.6L V6 I just turned over 1000mi. When should I do the first oil change? What dino should I go back with? When can I switch to syn?

I drive 83 miles a day total to work, with half being constant speed highway, and the other half speed up slow down curves.

What does the owner's manual say???

Does it tell you to do the first change early?
Id be most concerned about doing "constant speed" when breaking in the engine.

If it says to do the first early, do it early. If it says there is a special break-in fluid, then Id go the specified interval for that. If it says nothing or says to go with the OLM, Id then change it at 50% or 5000 miles, whichever comes first.

Id look in the VOA section and pick a dino that comes with a good strong dose of Moly. Id also consider doping with Schaeffer's #132.

Switching to syn can certainly be done at 10k, though I wouldnt hesitate to switch over at 5k. Likely you can go over earlier... many cars come with syn from the factory...

I broke it for the first 500 mi per the manual's instructions, and varied my speed the entire time.

What about changing just the filter and topping off the factory fill? What is the factory fill, anyway??

Do an oil and filter now and another one at 5,000 miles go to syn and follow the oil change moniter .

I change all factory fill at 1000 and go syn usually at 5-10k. Usually because I use the free dealer oil changes to break in the engine. Try PP in that engine and you will be pleased.

Looking at used oil analysis that people posted here... it actually takes a few OC to break in the engine. I like your suggestion better.

I have an 08 LTZ with the 3.6 and did my first OC at 500 and then 1500 and switched over to Pennzoil Platinum at 3000.
