Years ago, when my FIL was a newsagent, I bought a scratch lottery ticket...had in big writing win $250,000.

I scratched it, and found two more $250,000 under the scratch panel. Checked the back, and it said "find the same dollar amount 3 times on the front and win that amount.

Laughingly went to FIL, and demanded my cash, as it was there clearly 3 times. twice in the scratch panel, and once in big gold writing above the box.

We had a laugh, threw it out, and a couple weeks later a bloke won a court case (and $50k) using the same argument. Judge awarded him the money, and closed it down as a source of winnings for everyone...no probs.

Tonight, it's revealed that even if you DO scratch the same three dollar amounts in the scratch panel, you may not in fact get that money.

If that "prize" has already been won, in spite of the fact that they are still selling tickets, and multiple tickets will be winning tickets for that amount, the fact that it's been won once on that issue of tickets precluded you from winning the prize.

It's all in the fine print on the back of the ticket.

A contract in which you cannot read your clauses until after the purchase of the ticket.

I knew the State of NSW was broke, but now the new Premier is just getting nasty..........

He must be taking lessons from the TV networks where they refuse to pay out contestants on their game shows when the shows have been recorded but don't go to air as the network has since axed it.

I can't work out HOW they can be broke.

Their debt has been pushed onto the balance sheet of the State Owned Corporations, who deliver $Billions a year, lotteries make a third of a billion.

They don't provide any services to anyone other than NSW (Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong), and as of yesterday, are airlfting traffic accident victims interstate for triage.

But when you look at it...the desal plant deal looks like it was made prior to the contract being placed on the market. How much more is hiding under the carpet ?

It got pretty bad around here.

After a well publicized incident where a new Buick was to be awarded to the first person to make a hole in one during a local charity golf tournament, and (you guessed it) the sponsoring car dealer told the first golfer who made said hole in one where to stick that Buick, our legislature passed a statute requiring people who promise prizes, to actually award them, and made it a deceptive trade practice (harsh penalties) not to do it.
