Never had a garage or even a car port

With over 60 years of living I have never had a garage or carport where I have lived. I have lived in a townhouse and my current house over those years. I bring this up because I am due for an oil change and am not thrilled on laying outside on the cold Michigan ground to change it. (Old age is catching up to me) Plus It is a drag not having tools handy and having to drag them outside to use them

Anyone else been car protection deprived?

Two car garage occupied with three cars, tractor with plow, mower decks, snowblower. Not heated, tight, with tools inside and down stairs. I wanted to expand garage a few decades ago, but all family members fought against with multiple excuses. So, I lay on the frozen ground outside when servicing family autos. Yup, getting too old for this.

Used to be that way, but now have the garage. Won’t lie, it really is nice.

Even still, couple of weeks ago I did some car work “while it was still warm outside.”

Maybe an oil extractor could help? Of course they don't work on every vehicle.

On many cars, it is OK to change the oil filter every other oil change, so maybe there is relief.

In any case, it might be better to manage oil changes to more moderate times of the year.

Given your climate that is not practical for sure. I'm guessing you are done moving and won't put the garage high on the list for a future place? When we were house shopping I had non-negotiable requirements for the garage.

My garage serves multiple purposes, normal garage aspects with fluids,tools,shelving,ect... Also some peace and serenity from the Wife. Change your oil once a year when the weather is feasible.

Guilty. Side one has 4 kayaks, 4 bicycles, a large tool box, a generator, lawn mower, etc. Its about 40% open?

Side 2 is fully open, which is more than most around here. Even those that have side two open fill it with a fancy golf cart.

Every winter I get dragged into some emergent situation where I'm fixing something in completely inhospitable conditions. I don't see it coming. I just "embrace the suck" and feel like I accomplished something.

Oil changes still happen mid-winter; they could be 500 miles early or late and happen on a "nice" day.

I have a driveway n garage still change the oil in the street. I change the oil before it gets cold out if it needs or not to carry through the winter. My daughter college car a little more difficult she's away but change when she's home and her inspection is in December I know she is home for break easy to schedule it have them do a oil change that carries it until spring

I want to add space to current shop/garage. Ha!

I didn't have a garage until I was 40. Lived the whole time on the Canadian prairies. Lots of window scraping, snow removal and cold starts with fogged windows.

Wouldn't be without one now. We have lots of stuff too, but we have 2 vehicles in a 2 vehicle garage.

I filled up my nice big shop and had to build a shed for the OPE. Now I'm thinking about building another for the motobike(s). Space is a vacuum.

Pick one of the warmer winter days to change the oil. Unless it's a bad year, they come around every few weeks.

Gosh, that was a life goal of mine - a garage. Grew up without one. Had to rent at the beginning. Finally got an attached one and it's so convenient for this kind of stuff. Park in it, open the hood to heat it up, come back 30 minutes later to do the work.
I feel for you. Been there. Yuck.
