Even if you don't spill any fluid, you still have to account for clingage (or transfer) losses to figure how much fluid to refill.
Never changed trans fluid before.

I actually prefer to drop the pan at least every 50k or so to wipe all of the clutch material out of the pan - something you cant do with a flush alone. and while its true that many transmissions now use screens instead of real filters, I fixed a late 80's Cavalier that had shifting problems - due to a clogged filter - it dropped the pressure enough to cause problems downshifting on hard stops.

That was 6 or so years ago so I have no clue what size the fitting was. I did it with the car on jack stands to be able to get far enough under to the check plug on the side of the trans.

So i am on my phone waiting for the trans to be serviced. Looks like some of you were right, I asked about the fluid used and for this car DexII : ( I requested dex vi which they said was fine but they seemed a little surprised, maybe even annoyed. Lets see if they charge me more! ; )
I recently did the auto trans in my 2000 Tacoma, 140,000 miles. I dropped the pan, cleaned the filter & magnets & put on a new gasket. I was going to put in a new filter but not in stock at the parts store. Yes the fluid that came out was a little 'tired'. All is well now & no leaks. Better a little late than never.
