Neti Pot

My wife is a big neti potter. I have used it when I get a cold. It really helps people who get recurring infections in the sinuses.

One VERY odd sensation, for sure.

Yes...they work great. Make sure you don't use if you have a sinus infection though, doc says it can actually make it worse.

My ENT suggested using "Simply Saline" which sprays a fine mist of saline and gets to the back side of the sinuses. Much more pleasant.

I get the kit that has the squeeze bottle and the premixed packets of saline. It has helped greatly. I used to get sinus infections all the time. Haven't had one now in about 2 years. The trick is to do it regularly. I use it once a day and twice if I am reacting to something in the air.

I have the same one from Costco - two squeeze bottles and what must be a lifetime supply of saline premix. I used to mix up my own solution in a Nalgene bottle and just use a funnel to pour in into one nostril but this is much nicer.

I've found it works great and really helps to keep my sinuses clear. Allergy season, dusty work environment, colds & congestion are no match for it.

Pretty bad advice. If used correctly it PREVENTS the infection from ever happening!

And if you have bad, chronic infections it can CURE them without antibiotics.

Read up on them, and consider a new doctor.

Same here, I've had this for about two years now. The one I got is called Neilmed Sinus Rinse, it can be seen at neilmed.com They have the neti pot too, as well as several other sinus products.

I don't use it as much as I used too, the novelty of leaning over the sink and forcing fluid around my sinuses and out my other nostril has kinda worn off for me. When I'm out of the packets I may try one of their spray or mist products that can be used without the gymnastics.

Nothing wrong with his doctor, that's certainly been my experience. All this has done for me is made my sinuses feel good/clean/whatever, it's never prevented or cured anything, including sinus infections.

My experience with the squeeze bottle is great for allergies - I don't have any anymore, but I do get more winter colds because it washes away the mucous lining and makes infection easier. My sense of smell is greatly heightened too.

What I use -

It has made so much difference with respect to congestion and infection, I could never go back to not using one. I mix my own salt water using un-iodized salt, just enough to cover the bottom of a small Dixie cup.

Rinse the bulb with alcohol afterwards. Try to remember to get the alcohol out before the next use, or you will be swearing you will never make that mistake again.

I have done that swearing many times...

Yes, works better than I'd have ever thought. Always funny seeing someone doing it. The wife had her son doing that and the neti pot to help with sinus problems.

I'm doing something similar in function to the neti pot (doc recommended)to help with my breathing issues. It is helping, although I have physical problems (ridiculously deviated septum) and will likely require surgery to correct.

Yes. I am very prone to sinus infections, and my doctor recommended a saline rinse. Touch wood, I haven't had one in quite a while doing this periodically.

Also do not use this squeeze bottle like a turkey baster for the power steering fluid changes every one talks about on here.

Yea..I just bought one from CVS. It included 50 packets for 12 bucks. I like it.

Al: If you have Costco in your area they are cheaper than CVS. They sell the large box including two bottles and 250 packets. Since I use mine daily it is a significant savings.

I don't belong and I already bought one. Thanks anyway

I wonder how much difference saline water would make versus regular tap water with canning salt and baking soda? I've gotten back to using mine with the latter and it does help. Just need to stick with it maybe these allergies won't be as terrible. If you inclined you could use it clean your ears also.. just remember to clean it afterwards!
