This is the wall socket I have and I added 2 new wires (4 wires with a quick coupler/wing) from the socket up, inside drywall, connected to a LED light fixture.

It works fine, sockets are energized and the LED light turns on when a *wall switch on the opposite wall is turned on*.
Would like to be able to independently turn on/off the LED light but keep socket energized.
This is a top floor apartment unit and I have to keep mods to a minimum

Suggest some simple switch and how-to connect it, please.

Single pole switch on opposite side wall is turned on > energizes sockets on opposite side wall > added 2 wire extensions for a near ceiling LED fixture

The thing you plug into, pictured, is an outlet. A socket takes an edison base light bulb.

So the switch controls both the outlet and your bootleg wire to the LED?

You should probably leave the switch always on and get a smart bulb.

Sounds like a switched controlled receptacle "half hot". But as mentioned you shouldn't be messing with rental electrical. Also you don't sound knowledgeable on the topic either so you really should leave all alone
