This is for my friends mr2. Its the same motor i have which is the n/a 4age 1.6 liter. Im kinda stomped between Pennzoil conventional, motor craft semi-syn and havoline. There in his price range. i know there all great oils. What would you guys go with? This is the 5w30 flavor btw. And should i add a can of BG MOA in the oil, i do have many cans sitting and doing nothing.Thx a bunch !

Motorcraft semi syn, and NO BG additive. Good oil doesn't need additives....save the money
I do have 20 Bg moa cans btw.. lol

+1 although any pretty much any API SM-rated oil will work just fine. Unless you plan to extend your oil change intervals or have an application that would require a specific oil, or both, cheapo oils are just fine.

seems like i will soon enuff..
I would run a High Mileage oil to get a tiny bit more padding in that high output Yamaha engine, IMO the Pennzoil conventional, Castrol GTX does not work well in High rpm/high stress. If he's not going to be wailing on the engine then - run what you like that day.

I have 2 toyota 1.6 and 1.8 engines. If your buddy does not beat on it and the motor does not burn oil , you could use your drained oil from your last change. The motor is bullet proof. I have too found that Castrol GTX and Pennzoil Conventional do burn faster if the motor is an oil burner. mc and Texaco are a bit more robust. My motors have lots of miles and do not like synthetics either.It burns too fast so I stick with dino.pick an oil /any oil.

I'd go with Havoline. Before the 12/31 most AAP's have it on sale for $12.99 for 5 qts & a Pur. Classic filter. Pickup two sets and use the $10 AAP coupon to get 10qts & 2 filters for around $16 (incl. tax!).
MC or Havoline, Pennzoil Conventional is an excellent oil, and I've had great luck with it in other Toyota's (Including my dad's motor home with the 22-RE 4 Cylinder+6600 LBS = high stress enviroment)
However I haven't tried it in any high rpm engines like the 4A-GE yet. A few years ago I had a '91 Corolla All-Trac that burned Valvoline like nobody's business. I switched to GTX, and that slowed the burning quite a bit. This car had the 4A-FE (Same block, different head).

I was lookin at that smoking deal at AAP for the Havoline..My friend is always in nyc traffic, day in day out. so the car does get beat on. And these cars on the high way is sumthin to be seen.. 80 mph @ 4.2k rpm
Change of plans. Found an add on craigslist for castrol edge 5w30 for 3.50 a bottle. Got 4 quarts for 14 bucks. Not too shabby! From what iv heard bout edge, not to many people have to much exp with this oil.. How u guys feel bout it ?
As old as that thing is I'd run the cheapest oil I could find.

+1 Grabbed 2 of these today. Because of price I haven't used Havoline in some time. This is a good deal without the coupon, a great deal with it. Head for Advance before the new year. Coupon can be found on promo board.
