Need some present ideas for christmas

I've thought of a rifle for my kids, but I'm not sure just who that gift is for...

I'd say, Ipod touch is good, kids love games. We like the Wii, it can be fun playing Wii sports sometimes (bowling, golf, etc). Our school has a bunch of Ipads now, and I think even the first graders can use them in class, so having one at home might be a good investment. Certainly is great in the car; my son plays games while my daughter listens to music, and I get to listen to silence, as earbuds are cheap.

Legos. My son loves legos. I recently got Creationary as a birthday gift, and we've enjoyed playing it.

Kids like the strangest things. I forget how, but this silly flower (think 3' tall, with like a pipe cleaner stem, really oversized flower) was a "favorite" for a while. Right now it's LED stuff that stay lit through the night.

After that, and I might be a bit jaded here, since I have a small house: do all you can to convince the grandparents to give money to a college fund or something that won't get tossed into the trash next week...

What does he have already? How much are you willing to spend? how about Power Wheels, iPad Mini (or other kid tablet), huge Nerf gun, Thomas Train table/set, Legos.

Ride-on backhoe thing. Great for sandbox but good in snow. Like this but on wheels so he doesn't just dig a circle around where it's planted.

I totally agree with this. I like the idea of getting dirty and making it a learning experience... Like when it thaws, then you and he can go and make a construction site in the front garden, and go plant some new flowers for mommy. He can get all the credit, and make it into work, husbandry of real property, dirt and nature, etc.

A lasting fun and effort-oriented gift set.

I had a digging thing like that when I was little. Definitely a great idea!

If you don't have one already, a long lived, intelligent, hunting type dog he can grow up with. He will be 20 by the time the dog dies and there will be many years of bonding and fun!

I agree with this as well.
Call me old fashioned but getting a young child an electronic device for Christmas only to have it be obsolete by the time he's in school...is silly. But it's your decision, not mine.

Kids are pushed to grow up to quickly these days. My opinion only.
