My son wi be four in July next year but he is very responsible and advanced for his age. It's almost scary how smart he is. I want to get him at least one big present any ideas? What does a four year old milestone deserve? He likes cars trains thinks hunting is cool to. Any neat Ideas is appreciated.

How about a decent remote control car? We got our 2 1/2 year old a remote control corvette recently, and for Christmas he is getting a remote control monster truck, he loves cars and trucks. And these keep him pretty occupied.

Binoculars/ tactical gear vest/ flashlight/ compass/ maps/ bird whistle...

Build up a kit that all lives in one spot.

Pedal bike? That's what my 3 almost 4 kid is getting this Christmas. He's a pro run-biker so hopefully we can skip the training wheels.
I like the remote control car idea too.

Anyone seen a meccano type set for 4-5 year olds? He likes nuts and bolts but they have to be a decent size.

Old School here...

Big Wheel pedal trike, I've seen Batman, Superman, Barbie versions.

Great exercise, but you need some smooth area to ride...

A new Camaro Z28, and if he can't use it, you can keep it for him until he can.

(OK, so I'm projecting my own dreams here...)

He's 3 yrs, 4 mos old- right? Remote controlled car/truck should be OK- but I'm gonna go against the flow here & say to get him something that's strictly kid-powered too. A nice big Tonka dump truck, along with a couple of smaller cars or Jeeps, and a 99 cent Home Depot plastic Fiskars garden trowel for digging. Now add a small bag each of toy soldiers(Army Men!

) & dinosaurs from the Dollar Store & he's all set. For some icing on the cake, get him a small telescope or monocular. I have a little 10X Tasco monocular that's only about $8-$12 & bet that any little boy would love one. A kid-sized backpack would be good too- call it his "Adventure Bag".

Let him be a little boy & play in the dirt. He'll develop his imagination & build memories that will far outlast any he has from going catatonic with the latest gee-whiz electronics.

^^Forgot about those. I LOVED my Big Wheels (I went through them very fast and had several, haha)!! Green Machines were awesome too!!

If he is fairly advanced and responsible maybe get him an airsoft rifle that he can practice with. Maybe even a pellet rifle if you have a good place to shoot.

Getting kids started in shooting early is great!

I wouldn't get him a airsoft/pellet gun...not at 2.5...plenty of time for that in a couple more years. Doesn't matter how advanced he is, at 2.5 kid still do silly things, wouldn't want a silly thing to have serious consequences, that's all.

What about a small 2 man tent he can set up in his room.

...or a decent cheap tablet. My 3 year old is a whiz on ours. She can call up YouTube, watch Dora and play dexterity games all at the same time. She takes vids and pics all the time with it too. The tech is going to be integral in their lives, might as well have them be proficient at it while having fun.

My daughter will turn four early next year. Her big gift this year will be a Kindle Fire HD 7 tablet.

Many of the schools around here are transitioning from laptops to tablets in the classroom, so she'll have a head start in knowing how to use one. The Kindle Fire can also download movies from Prime, which will be nice for road trips. Plus there's all kinds of kid-friendly apps and books out there. The tablet also has plenty of parental controls so she won't be able to get into (too much) trouble with it.

She already has a Ruger 10/22. Ruger offers the 10/22 in a ton of different colors, so I'm sure you'll find one he'll like. Plenty of aftermarket bolt-ons, upgrades, and downgrades for it. Load the mag with one round until he's mature enough to handle a semi-auto.

Kids love Nerf guns too.

And a big, BIG +1 to the Hess truck, Tonka truck, and Big Wheel.
