Valvoline Synpower 5w30 with 5000 OCI or Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 with 10000 OCI. It is for a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado 3.5 liter 5 cylinder. I have been using the Synpower and have 21000 on the truck now. It uses 6 qts.

I like shorter drain intervals. I know that there are some good used oil analysis to back up a 10,000 mile OCI, but I still like 4,000 to 5,000 mile intervals. You can use a good synthetic, but unless you are towing or driving a high performance vehicle, I would use a good conventional oil. If you are spending a lot of time on the highway, change every 5,000 miles. More city driving...then every 4,000 miles. Just one opinion.
If your going to use Synpower follow your OLM and dont worry about nothing else.
I am using Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 right now and my car loves it. It has more additives and detergents so will keep your car innards clean too. You can easily do 10,000 miles but use a good oil filter like K&N or Mobil 1. If you want something cheaper but good, go with Purolator PureONE.
I would just run M1 for 10k. You won't have to crawl under the truck as often, and the oil should easily handle it. I would, however, change the oil every 5k until 30k. It appears that GM engines in general quit shedding wear metals from break-in at that time. After that, run the M1 (or other synthetic) with no fear. I used to be big on Valvoline, but when a company starts losing money they tend to cut quality on the production line to save a penny. That simply scares me!
