Where did you hear that from? Same guy that told you new cars never have problems?
I've had 2 problems w/ my 25 year Kenmore. Same problem both times. The fan in the freezer that circulates the cold air stopped working. Symptons - bottom of freezer is cold, but the top is warm, the fridge side is also warm. The first time I called a repairman and he just replaced the fan in the freezer, its back inside the freezer, behind some panels. 2nd time, just last year, I took apart the panels in the freezer and discovered it was the same problem - fan not working. Found out he did a lousy job of putting the panels back together. I did it right. Fix less than $40. Called local parts and got a made-in-mexico replacement. BTW, mine is a side-by-side.

I have bought a water valve for our refrigerator and shelf clips for our micro wave there. They have an outstanding parts finder and good service.

In both case, I got factory parts. They aren't cheap, but they are reasonable. And fast and reliable.

It's one of those places that's good enough that I don't even look else where.

Our first refrigerator still works after 32 years... Quieter than the newer one. What I like most about it is that all of the inside panels are coated with ceramic enamel. So it is more hygenic than many things on the market today, (or for some other reason) foods stay fresh much much longer and stays odourless.

Five years before its compressor started to knock occasionally because of the dried rubber absorbers at the base plate. I sliced a dried silicone tube on the way to garbage, re-bolted the silicon and it's quiet again with zero cost. Since this instance was only a slight annoyance I guess I can call it problem free.

our Kenmore lasted thru 5 moves, 2 kids and 25+ years.

We got rid of it because the color was all wrong for the house......donated it to a church, it's still working. ice maker was only casualty.

Refrigerators are nothing like cars. the Referigator components are suppose to be high durability. At our last house, we had a GE that was 20 years old. the house before that had a Frigidaire that was 15 years old.. this Amana is only 4 years old. ****, My brothers Chinese Brand Haier mini fridge is 6 years old. still runs good.

If both your fans are running and everything is CLEAN, then I suspect it is in the controls.

I've been told that the control module that lets the frig go into defrost can have problems, either not letting it defrost or keeping it in defrost.

I just replaced the evaporator fan in my 7 year old GE with another "made in singapore" replacement.

I had just moved this frig into the garage since I bought the wife a new (and much bigger) Maytag, and the fan went out.

Since I didn't want my "beverages" to warm up, I went out and bought a new replacement fan for $40!

Sometimes it is cheaper in the long run to replace old fridge with a more energy efficient model than repair.

My grandma had a non-auto-defrost unit that has an open freezer insider the fridge, on the top section. You have to disconnect it once every 2 month or else it became an ice cube. The outside was rusted, and because of that she is an amature expert in ice scupture.

That was in the late 80s, so we figure the fridge is a relic from the 70s when she got it free with her apartment in Hong Kong, as the last owner didn't want to take it to his new home.

She also had a wall mount clock running on 220V AC. Recently a new clock and a new fridge cut her electric bill by half in the winter (no heating or AC, cooking via propane).

as others have said, if the evaporator fan is still going it will be
1.blocked drain
2.defrost termination t/stat,
3.defrost timer,
4.defrost element,
not necessarily in that order.

I have to change the def.term.t/stat tomorrow in a friends side by side Amana.
