Need Help with a Small Engine

Wow, night and day difference. No more lean stumble/misfire at all that I can tell. Amazing that the older pilot jet passes more fuel than the 2024. But maybe not really, since this is where the EPA/CARB is strictest on fuel mixture, and probably tightened it down more for 2024. They always put it on the ragged edge of lean and seal it up so folks can't adjust it to make it run properly. They fear that someone will mess it up and run so rich they wlll have a cloud of greenhouse gases hovering above them making mini climate change .

Anyway, glad you fixed it. See? You can do it. Just takes a little figuring out and some cursing while trying to get things apart. Now, to work on your YouTube videos 😁.

Indeed. I can guarantee you that it is totally reasonable too. There is no visible smoke and no appreciable smell… I am in the same camp as you that a small engine burning 1.2 gallons of gasoline in 10 hours is not going to contribute even the most trivial amount to climate change. It is kind of like the auto off feature on my vehicle … saving a teaspoon of gasoline every fill up is not going to save the environment

Nice. Just out of curiosity what makes the Yamaha EFI most desired to you?

I mean I know that Ryobi, Generac, Pulsar, Sportsman, AI Power, and many others clone it, so that must mean something. I really like how quiet it is and how well designed it looks. The Yamaha color scheme and quality of the control panel is amazing. It even has a small flashlight like LED to light the panel at night, so you can see the outlets. I like that when you start it in eco it down throttles automatically, The fuel gauge is nice, too, and the build quality is good. It has a genuine NGK plug, too.

Then there is the genuine Yamaha MZ80 engine must be great to be copied by so many others. I also like the push rods in that unlike a belt that should never need to be replaced, a push rod really never needs to be replaced.

It has a very nice stop/start switch, and I really like the choke that you pull, but technically that is a cable someone can mess up.

The bad is that it weighs more than Honda by an bit and is a bit louder.

The bad is that the carburetor is a pain to remove because it won’t just slide off the studs. They could have easily put a torx or similar to make unscrewing the studs easy, but the best way is to remove a few panels and lift the gas tank.
Sorry - I meant Electronic Fuel Injection!!

That said, I did own a Yamaha … 3000 watt inverter … 3000EF something? Sold it with my camper. Was a remarkable unit - quiet, efficient, well built. I preferred the build of the Yamaha but kept the smaller Honda EU2000, plastic suitcase - and I’ve had its carb open way too many times to clear out the main jet which clogs very easily. In addition to an inline filter, I learned to run the float bowl dry after every use or it will 100% give trouble if used even 8 days later. Thrifty of gas, though, which I want.

1 gallon of product to 250 gallons of fuel would brake down to 15.14 mL of product to one gallon of fuel.

McMaster Carr sells a nice graduated cylinder in chemical resistant translucent white that can measure mL up to 100 mL in 1 mL increments. They have an online store.

You can find the diagram and pretty much buy whatever you want. The kicker is $10.99 shipping for a little tiny envelope of stuff, but I cannot say I blame them being shipping still costs them about half that.
Hopefully the 2024 pilot jet is not out there in circulation except on the factory assembly line.

Perhaps Yamaha knows the 2019 pilot jet is the cure, but per EPA/CARB restrictions, can't tell the public.

I do not know. Yamaha never told me anything. I don't know if it means anything to you but the part that fixed my issue was Pilot Jet 7PC-E4A42-18-00

I was ultimately able to find three four (4) different jets for the MZ80 Yamaha engine. The one I bought is above and from the 2019 catalog for the EF2200iS.

If you run into the same problem, I hope that helps. I bought it from Yamaha Parts, which is really Babbitt's Online. After I ordered, I saw they had an abysmal rating, but I guess no news is good news on the Internet. They had my parts shipped out within 48 hours, and I got exactly what was ordered, so I am pretty happy with them.
