I got this message from my buddy this morning. And I couldn't think more than transmission. See if you guys could see something else. The car is manual transmission. May be 50 to 60K miles.

"sometimes when I step on the gas the engine balks, then takes off. Sometimes when I'm accelerating hard (say, in 3rd gear getting on the freeway), it kind of "pulses", not jerky, but smoothly. Hard to describe: it's like the rate of acceleration changes. Like it goes hard for a second, then less hard, then hard again. Like a sine wave in Calculus..."

cjm: A few years back a friend of mine had something similar on his Celica. After changing many parts with no sucess he took it to an honest mechanic who pointed out that the rubber hose
from the air filter to the TB had a slit in it which opened up wider upon acceleration and caused the car to 'lean' out (too much air). He put duct tape around it and it ran fine until he could replace it. Its worth checking the hose.

naw, I think its' sometign very simple as the car's stil very new. I'd say to check over aly connections that may have been removed for a air filter change, or an oil change.

Check over the simple stuff, and I'm sure you'll find it. Also make sure to check your vac lines
