Need help, my math skills stink

Found a product but it list it's use in large scale. It's treat rate is 1 gallon to 250 gallons. How do I convert that down to apply it to a vehicle fuel tank? My tank size is 18 gallons. So how many ounces to a my 18 gallon tank?

I'm drawing a blank and my algebra is lacking.

Divide the contents of the container by 13 and call it close enough that is if you're able to run it completely out of fuel every time.

Think 1:250 no matter what the units are. 18 gallons is 18 x 128 ounces, you have 2304 ounces in the tank. Divide that by 250 results in use 9.2 ounces of product.

Or if you just divide 18 by 250 the result is use 0.072 gallons of product. Again 128 ounces per gallon so 0.072 * 128 = 9.216 ounces of product.

Easiest way is through proportions.

1/250 = x/18
ratio equal to X(the amount you need) over your fuel tank size.
multiply 1 by 18 then divide by 250 (cross multiplication)
which leaves you with 0.072 gallons.

to convert to ounces set up another proportion.
there are 128 ounces in 1 gallon.
1/128 = 0.072/x

1 gallon divided by 128 ounces = 0.072 gallons divided by X (the amount of additive you need)

multiple 128 by 0.072 then divide by 1

leaves you with 9.216 ounces

It didn't, I had to word it differently to get my results. Kind of hard to explain but at least it worked. I tried to just generic it but once I stated I was wanting to know how much cetane boost I needed it was spot on. Just asking it 1 gallon to 250 gallon convert to oz to 18 gallon it was not understanding it.

18 gal * (1 gal / 250 gal) = 18 gal * (1/250) = (18 / 250) gal = 0.072 gal * 128 oz / gal = 9.216 oz

The key is to find common things (like 18 gal / 250 gal = 18 / 250) and cancel out top and bottom (remove gal / gal), and throw in things that are different unit from top to bottom but when divide equals 1 (like 128 oz / 1 gal). That's the only thing you need to remember in algebra.

When an exact answer isn't needed or you just want to know the "ballpark" you are in, any units can be divided by 10 will simplify doing the math in your head. 25 gallons of fuel would require 1/10 gallon of additive which is 128 oz / 10 = 12.8 oz. From there divide both by 10 again: 2.5 gallons fuel would take 1.28 oz additive. The 18 gallon tank is approximately 7 2.5 gallon increments (17.5 gallons), so multiply 1.28 by 7 to get 9.16 then add a bit more since it is 18 gallons not 17.5.
