I wonder many times more you spend keeping a MB diesel running 500k vs a 88 Ford Escort. IMHO anything will run "forever" with proper maintenance, stomach for repairs and a good luck.

I would go to the largest Ford dealer in your area and ask them if they want to be part of your story. They could go through the proper channels with Ford and the news media to see if anything can happen. There is a 89 Mustang on youtube now that has over 600,000 miles so there are many storieslike yours, I would guess that Ford is aware of. Good Luck!
