Longtime iphone user and now using a nice Galaxy android phone. These Google pop up notifications are driving me nuts. Every time I go to a Walmart, restaurant, store etc, I get notifications telling me the store hours or wanting me to write a review etc.

I've checked on line and it says to turn off or disable Google notifications. I've turned off everything I can find to turn off but still get these Google pop ups.

Obviously I have overlooked something, but I can't seem to find it.

Anyone know the secret??

On mine (Galaxy s6 active), in the Google Assistant, I click on settings - notifications - your feed - Notifications. I can turn notifications on and off there.

Mine seems to go Settings > Device > Sounds and notifications.....But then it doesn't have anything specific to Google

Way too many places for notifications

Is it Google Maps or Google Assistant?

I don't believe that I have Google Assistant.

Think maybe I found it in Maps > settings> location history...now turned to off. Will see later on when I head back to Walmart.

No, thats just the history of where you've been, which unless you want to be tracked was a good idea to turn off anyways. You can hop onto the web and adjust your account from a laptop. Its easier.

Sorry try from "Google".. Settings -> Notifications -> your feed -> get notified about...

Wow I think I found it!1 Is the "places" switch the one you want to turn off?? If so its now off!!

Took me a month to get my phone AND google account tuned to stop collecting data.

Remember that if you aren't paying for the service, then YOU are the product that they are selling to their business partners.

It might also help to turn off the GPS when you don't need it.
On my S5 I keep the "Location" (GPS) off unless I need it, hoping to reduce the data collection.

I had the same issue, I was wondering why a knife and fork or a shopping bag would suddenly appear in the taskbar!

I think they sneekily turn on new features so you can see them working. The other day I was with my GF at Longhorn and took some pics she would not like. Munching on ribs, just to tease her. An hour later google had those pics, asking if they could use them in a Longhorn review. OMG! They don't actually take them off the phone, its just the local program. But it sure made me feel violated, thats for sure
