need advice from you guys....

i have a 2002 lexus is300 with 87,543 miles. It has alot of miles and has been service by lexus with toyota motor oil every 5k miles. I just recently changed to Mobil 1 5w30 and would like to know if i did the right thing. Should I have just kept on using toyota motor oil every 5k? Also what is a good auto transmission oil?

You can't go wrong with Mobil 1. If you want to spend the extra $ Mobil 1 makes a synthetic transmission fluid as well, good stuff.

I believe Redline's synthetic transmission fluid is even better than Mobil 1 ATF because the Redline has higher levels of antiwear additives.

Have you had your transmission flushed before? It probably should have been done at about 60K with a drain and fill and 30K and coming up again at 90K. At least that is the service interval for Nissan.

Mobil 1 5w30 will work fine. Changing the the auto transmission fluid is a great way to extends it's life too. Check the owner's manual to insure whatever transmission fluid you decide to use, it meets the manufacturer's specifications.

triple_se7en: I just got "dropped jawed" when I checked the oil in my b-i-l's 180K 4 cyl. Volvo and found it down a qt. 2 weeks after changing it to synthetic. (not Mobil 1 but an older full PAO
10w30)

This car usually used a qt. every 2 months. What causes this increased consumption? PS: I added a qt. of conventional to bring it up to full.

You may see double the consumption numbers for the first two OCIs. It happens alot when changing from conventional to Mobil 1 in higher mileage vehicles. Most times it goes away.... but there are times it doesn't. Not all vehicles prefer synthetics.
