Need a whole house humidifier for cramped ductwork

We had a whole house fan-powered Aprilaire on our last HVAC system, but the new system is taller and really changed up my options in terms of mounting locations.

The supply duct leaving the air handler is curved as soon as it exits then enters a larger curved section going into the ceiling. My only real option is the return but looks like I have to use the small side of the ductwork which is 9" wide. The wider portion is blocked by the air handler.

I have looked at the Aprilaire 500 and using an adapter plate which allows me to use a 8"x8" opening. My question is, how far can I run the bypass hose as it needs to run about 5 feet. Is there a smaller fan-powered option?

Can a fan be installed for the bypass instead of using the supply air?

Here's a pic of the LH side, I would need to flip the cover of the humidifier so the bypass is on the RH side of the unit. I would mount the humidifier where the old humidistat is located.

All input appreciated.

If you can fit the humidifier on the return right there just tap the bypass into the supply plenum right next to it.
The coils and strip heaters are in there, right to the top. Maybe I can tap the curved section but trying to avoid messing with the new work if poss. Mainly for warranty concerns. The unit is 5YO but still under warranty and that's a long story.

Have you looked into a whole house mist humidifier like this one?
I installed one in a 4BR 2800 sf home we lived in 10 years ago. It looks like they are more advanced now.

I have but not extensively, I have been turned away from them due to deposits they leave everywhere. Maybe that technology has changed.
