Need a way to restore a DVD

I have a DVD +R R/W disk that failed verification during a system backup. I want to erase it and try again. Windows (win-7) treats it as a single use disk and won't try to erase it. I don't have any extra DVD's. Is there a way to recover the disk?

Turns out I have a bad DVD burner. New ASUS burner arrived in the mail this morning.

Why not throw it away and burn a new one? Are blank DVDs that expensive?
