I have been using the 5w30LL oil with titanium in a 1.6T KONA. Well, its availability has went to $61 per 5 quart jug at both WM.com and Amazon. Naturally, too much. So I would like to find an equivalent oil at a much more palatable price range. Suggestions?

Why do you need such a fancy/high performance oil for a Hyundai? Literally go to Walmart and pick up any syn of your chiding and you should be more than good.
Because I want the best protection for my hard earned money. It's a turbo, and I sleep better at night with a fancy/high performance oil for my lowly Hyundai.

And what makes you think the Castrol is giving you “the best protection.” Protection from what? Blackstone says there’s no significant difference between any brand of oils that hold certs when it comes to wear.

Turbo? You realize Ford specs syn blend for their mustang/f-150 turbos and even their v8s.

I'm all for using oil that meets fancy specs even when the car in question doesn't require it. If the price is the same or almost the same to other oils with less approvals, then why not, right? Surely can't be worse. Currently using M1 ESP 5w30 in the Tucson. The PP Euro L suggested above also seems like a good choice. Quaker State has an equivalent oil which has the same approvals as the Pennzoil version, except for the lack of dexos2.

That only means a UOA is incapable of distinguishing such things, not some proof that all oils are the same. The oil in question is a moderately high HT/HS which protects from wear, and the manufacturer approvals it has (such as VW 504 00) have demonstrated oxidation resistance and stay-in-grade performance among other benefits. That’s what he’s getting with this oil.

What is Castrol 5w30 LL? Just the gold bottle?

Your WM should have Edge 5w30 A3/B4 as well as other xxw40 A3/B4 oils.

Another consideration is Rotella T6 5w30.

And IMO, it’s one of the most subpar oil requirements ever. Follow the OLM, 2 turbos, DI etc etc. By that logic, you should be okay with Ford’s original suggestion of 5w20 when the EB was still new.

The Volvo in my signature specs a plain Jane 30 weight and Dex3 for PSF. Both of which are incorrect.

You realize people here use Amsoil and other boutique oils for their NA 1982 Chevy van, too, right? I've done what I feel is my own research on this site, from its members and such, and settled on the Castrol LL. Its what I wanted, and now I need an equivalent. I don't care what Ford specs, and I am asking simply for a substitute for what I have been using. Nothing more.

Again, why does he need those approvals? Hyundai requires vw spec? Lol

Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 at AAP and Autozone.
Autozone also has the ESP 5w30. Both meet the VW 504/507 like Edge LL.

Cost is a bit more, $33 for 5 quarts, but its good oil.
5w30 ESP has been spotted in 5 qt jugs in the USA lately. Previously it had only been available in the jugs in Canada.

If those fords were dying prematurely, we would all hear about “subpar specs.” Where is your automotive engineering degree from?

People are wasteful, doesn’t mean you should blindly follow the herd. But you guys seem to know more than the engineers so…..
