Necessary to balance every rotation?

I do a balance every other rotation. In that time enough tread has been lost and weights have potentially been lost to justify it. Plus, it's usually free from the place you purchased the tires.

In 40,000 - 50,000 many tires are in need of replacement , anyway .

Yeah, I just wore out the tires that came on my WRX at 42K, and they didn't get out of balance until the very end, and only then, at extra-legal speeds.

When I rotate my tires, I only have them balance when there is a vibration and then, only the two that just went on the front...if it's on my dime.

For tread wear warranty purposes, make sure you have proper documentation that the tires were rotated every 4-6K miles.

What difference would it make, as long as rotations are at regular intervals? You could do it every 20K and get the same, even wear, as long as your vehicle usage was the same.

If you drive a FWD vehicle, 20K rotations is far too long imo.
You will see excessive wear in the fronts at that point.
Excessive defined as wear to the point you cannot rotate the fronts to the rear as the rear will have significantly less tread than the fronts, risking loss of rear traction.
Especially a concern cornering or braking in wet weather or snow.

Some but not all.

The objective here is to try and maintain the same tread depth all the way around. If you drive all high way you can go longer in between rotations compared to all city driving.

......the rears will have significantly less tread than the fronts, risking loss of rear traction.

So - according to your "math" ............ I should rotate them every 10,000 - and then they are completely bald by 30,000?

I'm not buying that.

I rotate and balance every 5/6K

I double checked my post and didn't see any "math" there.

When you rotate in your own garage what would be proper documentation?

I'm not really concerned about a tread wear warranty, my tires age out before they wear out.
