I let my permit expire. I don't see why honest people should have to go threw the hoops and pay the fees, while felons carry without a permit till they are jailed or die.

Almost anything the gov. gets involved in costs money..car licenses cost money. I don't see it as a big deal really. If you want to fall on your sword for it..your choice. It does cost the Gov money to operate the system. So it costs me 20 bucks for 5 years?? Thar's less than a cup of Latte.

You can carry like a felon for free..but then you would be a "felon"

I don't bother to carry without a permit. Haven't felt the need and certainly don't want to be a felon.

How often do you have to shoot to prove competency with your carry weapon?

50 rounds every 2 years here, at 15 yards or so, was a waste of my time.

Iowa no longer makes you shoot to qualify. When I first got the permit you had to. Had to shoot at 5, 15, and 25 yards. 50 rounds and had to hit 70% or higher. You were allotted a certain amount of time at each stage.

I feel CC holders should show competence with their firearm. I was surprised at the lack of simple gun safety, not to mention poor shooting skills I observed at qualifying sessions. I'm not a marksman, but 25yds at a man sized target isn't a challenge and normal safe gun handling is second nature for me. I was surprised and saddened by the lack of simple skills I observed at the range.

How much did your 1st Amendment right card cost? How much is someone willing to pay to vote? The Only gun law in the US is the second amendment, all others will be considered by me, but probably ignored.

We were qualifying along with some reserve officers and a few deputies that same day at the local range and I can tell you that poor marksmanship was had by more than one person with a badge that day. One officer did not even know how to field strip his XD and admitted he just used a bore snake on it here and there. Made me cringe to hear that and witness the scores for some people.
