My S-I-L went to the company owned NAPA store in Euless, TX, yesterday and was told that the Second Saturday Sale was discontinued as of last month. That sale was started in 2017, 30% off the first hour and 20% off the rest of the day. That was a great sale and will be missed.

Whenever I get the 20% off coupons for Napa I find that everything is 30% higher than everywhere else.
Ford sends out battery coupons for Motorcraft batteries and the price is literally MSRP which we sell batteries for anyway. Or they send out ones for wiper blades to customers based on the vehicle they own, but they don't offer the universal ones for that vehicle.

NAPA's sale and promotional machinations have come up here before.

For years, my NAPA was "Hometown Auto Parts" in Wood-Ridge, NJ. Great guys...HOWEVER, you must bring something printed to them...then they shift into gear. National or local (I can never tell) seemed not to matter.

The 20% off is a great deal on the NAPA legend and Odyssey batteries. Not cheaper than a Costco interstate AGM but if you’re looking for a premium battery it’s the best you can do.
The Napa legend 24F is $205 with 24 months warranty - so 20% is $164. Walmart has 24 month warranty 24F for $110

A Napa AAA 24F with 36 Month warranty is $226 so 20% makes it $180. Walmart 36 month is $140.

I am guessing all of them are made by Clarios now. Walmart is open longer hours, easier to find, has a really good warranty handling method, and is much cheaper. I just don't see buying one at Napa. To each their own.

I will say there rebottled Valvoline synthetic blend oil for $17 is a good deal - if you still used a blend. I do and its getting harder to find.

I remember when Napa was more of the old school parts store that had knowledgeable staff, real inventory not "have it here tomorrow" and they could look up stuff the other places could not. Back then it was worth the premium. However the last couple times I have gone they seemed just like the other chains only more money.

What differentiates a company owned Napa store from a non-company owned Napa store?

I dare say the length of time that sale was in effect seems to indicate it was not a child born of corporate parents. If the store used to be an independent auto parts store and was later acquired by Napa, I could see the sale being grandfathered in somehow to continue on for a while. But if Napa came up with it and put it into effect, there should have been advertising to get the word out throughout the duration, and I have never heard of this sale in any Napa ads I can remember.

I deal with battery vendor information for Napa's automotive batteries on a monthly basis, and I have not seen Clarios on any of the paperwork. I have only ever seen Deka when it comes to the batteries.

Maybe Clarios is affliliated with Deka, IDK. I'm just saying I have not seen Clarios anywhere on the invoices purchasing new batteries or recycling paperwork taking away the cores.

So there getting east Penn. Walmart has east penn depends on location. For example VA gets East Penn. We do not. You looking at national paperwork or just regional?

I can see where the Napa DC for our area in the Metroplex gets theirs. So it's not all Napa stores in the D/FW Metroplex, but all of them in this section of the Metroplex (or maybe it is all Napas in D/FW, but I can only see the ones our DC gets)

They either did not see an increase in sales, or it just wasn't financially viable. There have been Saturdays at my work where my hourly wage, not including my commission, far exceeded any gross profit for the day.
Loss leader. Customer needs something Saturday, your not open but your competitor is, then that customers new store M-F is also now your competitor. In the end your selling a commodity plus whatever level of service you bring to the table.

If you don't know then maybe it jogs someone into action. Most people really don't know what to buy, so they figure Motorcraft must be better than walmart. My BIL swears Motorcraft batteries are better than all others. Raves about them in fact. I don't have the heart to tell him there are only like 3 battery manufacturers in the US. If it makes him happy its worth the cost.

The legend AGM battery shell is the same as it was the last time I bought one, it still looks like a Deka/East Penn product to me.

I pay more for a USA made product with superior quality. Don’t mind the small price difference. Since our politicians aren’t incentivizing USA made products and trying to create jobs it’s our responsibility to do what we can using our $$ since voting is useless.

I got an Odyssey H8 AGM last month for $300 on sale with no core charge. I was also happy with the deal as there was a 20% Mother’s Day sale coupon when my battery left me stranded. You could also add in the Napa rewards of $15 on the next purchase so the total was $285. Great deal IMO.

The Clarios products I have purchased were all USA COO - last time I bought - which was 3, about 18 months ago. All continue to perform well.

I fully support USA products, this forum is littered with my comments. Its not political for me, its my livelihood. I work in USA manufacturing, visit hundreds of different USA manufacturing plants a year. They are my customers.

I would pay more for a East Penn / Deka over Clarios- but not that much more. In our heat none seem to last much past warranty. Also as I mentioned, depending on what state you can get East Penn at Walmart for same prices listed above.

Interesting, I didn’t know that about Clarios batteries. Not political for me either, factual information. With that said, I assume Walmart = ****ty so I don’t shop there for batteries.

It’s hot where I am too, regularly over 100 in the summer. I got 4 years out of the Deka/EP legend H8 and due to the charging scheme of my truck and general lack of use I was happy with that.

I like NAPA, when looking for better quality parts and Rockauto.com isn’t an option they are my second choice.

NAPA's battery replacement warranties have always lagged, even before others began to weaken theirs.

Supply chains differ by region, and at any given time, what is on the rack is what is on the rack, whether Clarios, EP, Korean, or whatever. For everyone, not just NAPA.

And as with every other retailer, the risk of finding a thick coat of dust on them is not out of bounds, cheap or expensive, given past experiences detailed here. If anything the low-turnover big-$ niche batteries are at greater risk of being old stock.

Ironically, I've had greater difficulty getting NAPA to honor their corporate promotions on the site than the local NAPA store. They local counter guys may grumble a bit about the site and national, but the printed national flyers are always honored.

I'm glad to have a pretty good local NAPA as an option, but not enough to keep their emails coming, with the uncertainty that the sales other than the flyers bring.
