Since today was 70* I decided to do an oil change in the driveway since it was due anyway. I use Castrol GTX 10w30 dino oil and usually a Motorcraft FL300 oil filter but all the stores were out of it so I decided to go to Napa. They gave me the Pro-Select oil filter for $2.85. I know they have a Gold filter but since I'm using dino and my OCI is every 3-4K I figure any filter (except Fram) would do. Anyone know about this pro-select filter for 2.85? Does it have an anti-drainback valve?

Thanks.

I can't imagine an oil filter could be quality for under $3 regardless of brand or manufacturer. Does Napa's website tell you anything about what the differences are?

The NAPA Pro Selects are what my mechanic uses. I wish I had cut the last one apart, but didn't think of it.

Honestly, I don't care if it was under $3 or not, I don't think NAPA is going to risk putting their name on a sub-par oil filter. I'd use one in a heartbeat and not worry one bit... especially if it is only going to be on the vehicle for 3,000-4,000 miles.

As long as your engine insides are not a dirty mess....

You can remove that filter at 3-4K - then drain it's contents - reninstall it - then use it another 3-4K.

Sleep well!

For a 3-4 OCI Fram would work just fine too. No worries.

Thanks.

if memory serves these are the white Napa filters and my local shop uses them at every change, the caddy Northstar with its 7.5qt thirst for oil seems to be fine with them, looking inside from the oil filler cap all is nice and clean, usually go by the OLM for changes or when its convenient to get done (read usually somewhere in the 15-30% OLM left).

Time will tell if this is bad but thats what it has goten for most of its life.

Not that big a deal. There are some pretty good deals on economy housebrand motor oils and filters. I don't thindk the differnces in money spent is linear in results.

Pete C.--care to weigh in on the quality of the Proselect line? The internal construction looks identical to the gold with the exception of the silicon ADBV and I assume the filter media is more efficient and/or more durable. IMHO they compare favorably to standard Fram, Champion (ST, STP, AC DELCO) and Purolator Premium Plus. What say you Pete C.?
