I have a 2005 Chevrolet Express 3500 cargo van, FI, 6L, V8, gasoline engine, with 70,000 miles on the odometer and I'm using Pennzoil 5W-30 conventional oil and I plan to continue using conventional oil.

I just picked up a NAPA Platinum oil filter. When I got home I read the box where it said that this filter is for synthetic oil ("designed for use with synthetic oils").

Can I use this filter or should I return it for a silver or gold?

It will work just fine with conventional. The synthetic reference is more marketing, indicating that the Platinum is intended for extended drain use. If you're running conventional you could easily leave the Platinum filter on and use it for two consecutive oil changes.

No

It is Napa's "long life" filter. Depending on your OCI, run it for 2 oil changes.

How long is your OCI going to be?

yes you can use it with conventional but being its a extended drain filter you can leave it on and run it for two consecutive OC.

Ok then you could run this filter for three OCI easily.

BTW, how can I get my used oil tested??

For uesd oil analysis (UOA)I would recommend Blackstone Labs-their name is all over the ads on this site, as well as forum vendors/supporters. The have the process down to a science
