Time for an oil change in the pickup and with all the who's buying who the last time I was here it looks like the Napa Gold and Wix are still solid contenders. Mainly looking at the 51061/1061 for the pickup and the 51040/1040 for the car. 6 month changes with average 3000 miles.

Any reason I should go with another filter?

Personally, I've gone away from WIX/Napa Gold for these reasons:

Air Filters -

1) An application I was using, the box the filter came in used to say Made in U.S.A., but now had a label put over it that said made in China.

2) That's typically not a deal breaker for me, but in addition to that, I found that the overall quality of the filter was degraded over previous Made in U.S.A filters.

Oil Filters -

1) The stated efficiency rating of the Napa Platinum/Wix XP oil filter has me wondering what really is going on over at Wix.

If WIX can adequately address these issues, I might come back.

To each their own. Your particular applications may vary?

I almost exclusively use NAPA Gold 1060 or 1061 oil filters in both of my big-block Chevrolet drag race engines, and have been doing so for many years.

I also almost exclusively use NAPA Gold air/cabin/oil filters. Visually, it is almost impossible to see a difference between the NAPA Gold and OEM cabin and air filters, and the price is a quarter of OEM, and much less than half of Fram. That is at least, when I buy them during the semi-annual Farm Days at NAPA.

When it comes to the oil filters, I have on occasion considered changing to Fram Ultra or Mobil 1 filters, since they have such high efficiency ratings. But then I get UOA results back from Blackstone, showing % insolubles measured at TR, TR, 0.1, 0.3, 0.1. And Blackstone shows the unit average at
So my recommendation would be to stay with NAPA Gold / Wix.

Certainly nothing wrong with Wix/Napa Gold, but even a cheap filter will be good for 3k. Napa Silver or Proselect would be just as good for 3k, plus the money you save

Thanks for all the replies and I've seen the Supertech's mentioned here before as a viable option but my wally never has them in stock. I also messed up, the 51061/1061 is for the wife's car, my truck takes the 51036/1036.

Every time I compare the Silver vs Gold the Gold always looks better on paper and it's only $3 more every six months.

I wish I would of bought more of the CQ blues at Rock auto but I'm not taking the chance ordering from them again.

+1 ... WIX / NAPA Gold is better, but like others have stated, NAPA Silver, NAPA ProSelect, and Microgard (all WIX-made filters) would be just fine for 3000 miles.
