I've got a 2003 4X4 Chevy 2500HD w/ the 6.0L engine in it. According to the Wix website and the Napa database I'm suppose to use Napa Gold filter 1402, which is shorter than what came on from the factory. Filter 1522 is the one that looks like the filter that's on the truck now and according to Wix and Napa that filter,1522, is for 2wd trucks. why a different filter for a 4x4 even though my truck has the 1522 equivalent from the factory? any help?

I would guess this is an error in the wix data base. I find this often with filters. Check another manufactor of filters like Purolator and see what they recomend. I have found for my car one manufactor recomends one size and another recomends another size and I am not sure why. I believe they just take the closest standard filter they have and recomend it.

just curious, but why aren't you staying with the AC delco filters? reason I ask is that I've been less than thrilled with the NAPA golds I've tried versus AC. I believe they both have partially synthetic media.

Nope, the AC Delco uses cellulose media, while the Wix/NAPA Gold uses a blended media with fibreglass in it. Plus the Wix flows better and uses a more reliable silicone antidrainback valve.

If your truck came with the 1522 Size AC filter I see no reason to not use the longer filter. Wix 51522 and Napa 1522. I have cut open many filters and Wix has impressed me the most with their build quality and great price. I am using the Wix 51522 filter on my 2002 CamaroSS LS1 with no problems.

I have a 2003 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 engine. If I remember right Napa says to use the 1042 and I can also use the 1522 (longer version) which I will be using next time. I will also be using the 1522 on my 2002 Camaro Z28. After reading up on these filters I believe that the Napa Gold filters (made by WIX) are the best oil filters for these Chevy engines.
