These 2 filters had about 10K miles on them. I normally replace them after about 15-20K miles. Today I checked the condition after 10K. This is the first and last time I will be using a Napa Gold. The car has 75K miles and have never see this before:

Did you install it yourself? Did it look like this before you put it in place? It looks to me like mechanical damage as it caught on something as it was being installed.FWIW--Oldtommy

I've always install cabin air filter myself, and make sure it's on right, the compartment where the filter sits is sealed, so nothing in the glove box can touch it. If you look at the pic closely, it's on both side of both filters. I find it odd that it happened to the front and back of both filter.

I hope you're being sarcastic. If i didn't care about the filter, i would have saved $18 and not even put a filter in or left the old one in. You're missing the point of this point, i'm not upset that i had to breath unfilter air, but i'm unhappy that the filter failed.

I bought the filter in Minnesota year ago, and now that i lived in Oregon, Napa will not give me an exchange becasue i didn't buy it at their location. Lesson learned.

I had a Wix cabin air filter that was really flimsy. The plastic frame on mine disintegrated when I pulled it to remove some rotting debris after just 9 months in service. The filter for my application was made in Israel.

I have a stack of Fram filters that I got for 90% off on Amazon, so I used one of those. It is made in China, but it is much sturdier.

As an aside, the cabin air filter is the only application for which I will use Fram. I have had problems with their engine air filters. I would use one of their oil filters before using one of their air filters.
 
I glad cars are coming with CAFs and are long over due... anyone ever clean their own evaporator?? what a PITA!!

what year did CAFs start being used? I have yet to get a new enough car to have one.

Same here. Installed a Napa Gold are filter when I bought my Saturn about 90,000 miles ago. Checked the air filter at 7,000 miles. Had a one inch hole in it. Had great service from Fram since then. Napa/Wix lost a customer.

This is probably the 5th filter i've replaced. The filter gets drop in the pastic cage, I double check to make sure the filter is not upside down based on the "air flow" arrows. It's that simple. I don't understand how it was not properly installed, it was snug before it was put back in the car, the filter lined up with the plastic cage. Please explain to me what I did it wrong. The filter failed to hold it's form, since something, the heat? or the air caused it to get pushed back like that.

I've used a Wix CAF in the past with no problem. This was my first NG, and will not risk using another one again. I have a Fram CAF in there now, but i will check it more often now.
 
I got a few from Carquest, probably made by WIX as all their other filters seem to be. No problems with it in my Jeep Patriot.

Many times the end pleat folds need to be tucked under tabs along the edges. Again, dont underestimate the power of mice. I am not happy with the wix engine AF I've run this past year - car seemed to loose power. Fit OK though. Going back to factory unit.
 
Hmm... never had that kind of issue with Fram & Purolator CAF on my old 02 Golf, which required me to install the filter onto the plastic frame (on the car) located within the windshield cowl.
 
I replaced the OEM cab filter on my sierra at like 123k, used a NAPA gold, still looks good and didnt deform.
 
I don't think the filter failed, many of these are so difficult to squeeze into the area that they get damaged in the process. There is no pressure or reason why a cabin filter would fail, unlike an oil filter.
